Here’s a small environment concept I finished up recently. It’s not a complete scene by any means, but just a fun little project.

Updated planet and shadow
For now it looks good. Only note: planet looks wrong because of shadow ![]()
Thanks for the input! It’s definitely a work in progress.
looks real nice though everything feels horizontaly stretched, planet thing too.
I love your sight looks real nice, some fine work on there as well, the race game was pretty darn sweet also mate.
Thanks for the compliments and for checking out my site. I think I need to adjust the camera’s FOV so it’s not so stretched. What do you think a good setting would be?
Cheers!
I had a minor critique. On the walls and panels and vents and such it appears as if the normal maps look a little “melted”. I guess to describe it, a lot of the vents and shapes don’t have hard/defined mechanical edges to them. It appears to me metallic plate walls, but everything around shapes appears to be slightly plastic or melted? I dunno if I conveyed it properly. My guess is the edges weren’t held tight when the high res geometry was smoothed and the normal map was created from it.
That’s a good observation. I think you’re probably right about the edges holding sharp on the normal mapping process while the interior ones remain smooth. I think I prefer the smooth edges, so I’ll have to find some way to smooth out the transition between the walls. I’m using Crazy Bump for my normal map generation so I’ll probably have to turn down the shape recognition slider a bit.
