SPACE (theatre based visulisation tool)

We have now released our latest free application SPACE version 1.05 for both MAC and PC, it shows how versatile a 3d engine such as Unity3d can be.

Although there are already planned extensions to this application, I feel this a good showcase of Unity3d’s runtime capabilities, and how it can be utilised for application creation, certainly the deferred rendering system.

This project was created to help theatre students visualise lighting concepts at realtime, obviously an decent graphics card helps.

All the best unity, jon

Hah that’s great! A long time ago, well, late 90s pretty much, i posited the idea we could do lighting designs to my theatre department at college with truespace, a commited thespian AND rendering junky i thought it would be a great idea. Sadly my 486DX2 didnt agree, the rendering times and quality were abysmal. And now you can do stuff like this just like that! Great idea, and from experience I can imagine lighting design for stage would be helped absolutely enormously by it

Yes, thank unity for the deferred lighting system, it’s not wysiwyg by any means, but in terms of easy experimentation this is a great starting point for anyone working on the basic’s, we plan to add animations shortly in terms of a lighting desk, stage cuing and some kind of plan print out’s etc. Although the operatability is basic for now, programming it from within unity taught me some interesting lessons.
