Spam Posts?

Sup ppls,

I spose this is mainly a thread to the mods/admins of the forums, but… when I click on the “New Posts” link… I see a ton of spam posts. I used to be an admin on a vBulletin board, and… the solution is actually really easy. If the spam has been an ongoing problem for a long time… the initial stage will take a while seeing as you will have to:

  1. Ban all spam accounts (I had to do it when I implemented the system on the other site I mentioned… it took 3 days to ban/delete all the spam), then whenever an old spam account would post a new post, I had to ban it.
  2. Create a new usergroup and title it “Confirmed Users”… or something like that :stuck_out_tongue:
  3. Move all members in the “Registered Users” group (or whatever the main one is) to the “confirmed” group.
  4. Set a restriction on the “initial” group (where all non-mod users are currently in) so that all posts need to be moderated.
  5. I can’t remember the exact term/AdminCP heading, but… when users in the “initial” group get a certain number of posts (for example… I used 3), they get promoted to the “confirmed” group.
  6. All moderators must be informed that they need to check the moderated posts/threads section in their ModCP when they login so that they can either accept real posts, or deny spam posts, then ban the spam accounts.

It’s that easy :stuck_out_tongue: Non-mod users can’t see moderated posts, so… the only ones who have to deal with the spam… are the ones who should be dealing with the spam… the mods, and for them… it all appears in one place in the ModCP… can’t get any easier :stuck_out_tongue:

Edit: Heyyy… I have 3 posts now… yay :P[/color]

As a former admin I’m sure you know how to use the search function

^Thanks for the link.

We have considered this, moderating every new users posts would be an enormous task, as our account system is set up that you have to create an account when you download the editor for the first time, people then usually check out the community site, we have a huge amount of new user posts everyday. We’d need an army.
