Spatial Blend - why a slider?

Can someone please explain the usefulness of a slider that has a range of 0-1 instead of just a 2d / 3d toggle? I’m sure lots of people would like to know. We need to build a bulk setting for this into our Master Audio plugin soon.

Thanks!

It’s for when you want a blend of the two, or you are transitioning from one to the other I guess.

I believe they said the setting was originally like this.

The example that someone was talking about when this was brought up as a solution was that he wanted to have a 3D audiosource at a distance, and then when he got close enough turn it to 2D.

Thats right, there are a number of use cases where having a blend between 2D and 3D makes a lot of sense. So, instead of having a toggle, and a slider that will essentially have the same properties at one extreme, we decided to simplify it to one slider.

Cool. Thanks!

Blends are definitely the most common case. As one example, I did an open world game where when you were driving the car the radio was in 2D but when you exited the car it became 3D (at the location of the car).

The new spatial blend feature caused a bit of confusion for me, when I tried importing a package from 4.6.

In one of the scenes there used to be a 2d sound, but I couldn’t hear it. Initially it wasn’t very obvious what caused it. After some prodding around, I found out that the spatial blend slider was set to 1 by default and the camera was too far away from the AudioSource to hear it.
