Splash dots on the ground

Hello, i want to make a simple top-view shooting game, and i want to make the enemies splash blood/paint on the ground when killed.
I want to make the paint stay on the ground until the player dies. A good reference is the Blood Splash from “Super Meat Boy”, but i have no clue to start.

  1. get the position of killed enemy
  2. Instantiate a prefab of blood splater particle system over there
  3. attach a self destruction script to the prefab
