Sprite editor

Hi,

Anyone who can describe, or post a link to a description, of how the Sprite Editor is supposed to work. Is it possible to draw sprites in the editor, as far as I can see it will only work if you mark an existing sprite in the project view and then start the editor. The Editor itself does not provide any drawing possibilities. Should I use a different editor to create the sprites initially?

Feels like I am missing the first steps.

Thanks for helping out!

I suppose the name is a bit misleading as you Edit the sprites as you may be thinking. You must bring in a Png, Jpg or Tif (or some others probably) file and then you can use the sprite editor to “cut” the sprites apart, select how much empty space between them, and set the pivot point.

There is probably an Asset on the store that allows for editing but i do not know. Try using Gimp or SketchBook for free drawing softwares that can easily be pulled into Unity.

Yeah and you could also check out Krita which is also a professional free and open source painting program.

There’s also a super helpful tutorial here on the Sprite Editor which may be of interest to you too. Happy creating!

I second Krita. I switched from GIMP to Krita, and it is 100x better in almost every respect.
