I attached the larger of the two standard flares (50 mm, I think) to a light and one of the flare cookies (is that right?) renders a translucent square. The flare circle still shows, but in addition is surrounded by a square. What am I doing wrong?
What are your machine specs? The best is probably to run Report Bug.app describing the problem (with a screenshot preferably); maybe it’s some kind of driver bug.
1.67 GHz PowerBook, 1.5 GB RAM, 128 MB ATI 9800, Unity Pro 1.6
Since your reply, I created a new project as a test, dragged in some standard Unity supplied assets, and in this test project flares worked beautifully. Also, in the test project there is a 3rd standard flare to choose from, the sun flare. This isn’t an option in the project I’m developing, the one exhibiting the flare strangeness. For what it’s worth, I started the problematic project with Unity 1.5, I think.
The project I’m developing isn’t very far along and I want to recreate some of the media anyway, so maybe I’ll just start over. I must have mucked up the assets, or something. I tried Assets–>Rebuild but that didn’t improve the flares. Was that even an appropriate thing to try as a fix?
Wish I knew what I’d done wrong so that I don’t do it again.
The attached image is exhibiting the flare strangeness. Otherwise, the image is as I meant it to look, dark.
Oof! It just dawned on me now, mid-reply, to replace my project’s flare assets with those created for the test project and bingo, now the flares work perfectly. Regardless, why did the flares muck up before, do you think?
You’ll want to reimport the Standard Assets (and Pro Standard Assets) into your current project. This can be done by using Assets->Import Package… and then selecting these packages which are installed in /Applications/Unity/Standard Packages/.
