Stable Version for Visual Effect Graph + MacOS?

I’m ready to start digging into the Visual Effect Graph for an upcoming project and while I’ll most likely be doing most of the development on my windows workstation, I’d also like to maintain compatibility with my MacBook Pro (w/ Vega 20 graphics).

I was going to follow a few simple YouTube tutorials, but it seems that finding a stable combination of Unity version and Visual Effect Graph on MacOS is not as easy as it would seem. I started by trying the latest beta of 2019.3, but the Visual Effect Graph window seemed pretty broken… I couldn’t move it around and a newly create VEG asset wasn’t even showing the initial chain of nodes. After looking at various settings and then returning to the window, any mouse event in it generated errors in the console… couldn’t even get a right-click menu.

So I tried making a new project (w/ HDRP template) in the version of 2019.2 that I’ve been using and once the editor had fully launched, it looked like this:

So is anyone out there having any success using Visual Effect Graph on a Mac? If so, what combination of render pipeline and unity editor is stable and functional? Am I being too optimistic in thinking that such a thing might even exist?

I’ve only tried using it with URP on a macbook. There was a pretty severe kernel crash happening for me when trying to create or open any HDRP project on my macbook 2015, and I think my bug is mentioned now on the VFX example page, along with the fix.

Since then, I’ve got a new 16" mac and no problems at all. Still just using URP though, as I’m targeting iOS and so far the results are great on iOS.
