Hi -
I thought I would post a video cap of a two player game I made using the OpenNI Unitywrapper. I used Cam Studio and the frame rate seems a little choppy from that.
Very nice. Love how it starts out all amicable, then decends into anarchy
Although there is clearly a goal, I like the ‘play’ factor of this, which can really only come via using the kinect as an input device.
Edit:
Out of interest which wrapper are you using for this?
I’m slowly working my way through all the various versions, trying to catch up with the work to date.
very nice “carry” script! Are you using my wrapper or the windows-only one? I’ve got some plugins to share with you if you want to get camera and depth drawing at high frame-rate.
Anyway, let’s work on stuff together, email me ( amir at tinkerheavy.com )
@Noisecrime - thanks, I like your comment about the kinect being a “game changer”. While this example has the features of a game, it is also interesting to think about designing “play spaces” where users can collaborate or even author things, in addition to competition.
I am using the unitywrapper.dll from the OpenNI site, and the Nite.cs script that came with the example project, but with modifications some of which I posted in the Showcase > Kinect plugin thread, getting a good frame rate, etc… I have thought about trying to switch to the openni.net.dll that is included with the openni sdk, and Amir has shown methods on how this can be done, but I also have been thinking not to push building new solutions until seeing what we get when Microsoft releases its sdk this spring, or if/when the Primesense / Asus camera comes out.
@Amir - thanks, the ability to pick up and move/rotate objects is done with a single script placed on both hands of the avatar, allowing it to pick up any rigidbody object that might show up in the scene. Its working well so far but I plan to tweak it further for use in other projects.
I am curious about the camera plugin you mentioned. Thanks for the email invite.
Thanks for the info. Yeah after intially looking at all the demos/samples/docs I did consider waiting to see what MS release, but figured I might as well get started. Have to say i’ve not read anything very encouraging about the ASUS version and the last release date i’d seen pushed it back to 2012.
I’ll check out the shockcase kinect threads, though i tend to search Unity forums every few days to see if anyone has posted anything interesting. I wonder if there is a good forum for discussing kinect. I know there is the openNI forum and the kinectHack one, but they are mainly focused on technical aspect rather than design and usability.
pick up any rigidbody??? can you put the script… thanks 8)
Wow, that video was really fun to watch. I can see the fun to be had with the Kinect.
That looks really cool, I love how the other guy just walks around and kicks his stack
