i want to start to design and develop making video games. i seem confused where to start im 16 and want to have a small foudation of the knowlege when i go in to collage at 18. i have read books on unity and know my way around it i also read books on blender where i have model a charater and objects such as a propane tank and other stuff. iv also read a bit on programming and can get it a bit. i get the maths of it because i love maths and the pysicis of games design. i have taking up applied maths in school which has help me to look at things in games. im unsure should i start with 2D games or 3D? but then would blender be useful in 2D games? i have designed levels and made them which where in spired by uncharted 3 multiplayer. i just want to start small and be able to design and develop a funtioning game in 2D or 3D and be able to learn programming. im unsure how to follow this path of learning when im not be thought in person. i want to make a very small projact for myself where i can see from start to finish when im on my school 3 month hoilday.im also going to a 4 day camp for games design and development where i will learn more again about the production of games design and development. i just dont know where to start to lean how to develop games. thank you for your time and sorry for going on and on.

Nice to see such motivation ! Welcome then

I don’t think starting with a 3D or 2D game really matters, as a lot of unity 2D games are in fact 3D with orthographic cameras looking at a plane. Anyway, the mechanics for both are pretty close. As for your projects, you will think bigger than you can do, then lower your goal, think you could have done this or that better etc : don’t worry, everybody does (right ? right ?!).

A good way to start is to follow tutorials. The Lerpz one is a good one for instance.

Good luck !
