Starting

Hi guys, Sorry by this question, but, I really need to know how to start with this engine… I just downloaded the Trial version today, and, I don’t know what to do.

The file downloaded have a .DMG extension (unity-2.0.0.dmg) and I don’t know what programm I must to use to open this file.

What programs I need to use to work with this engine?

Thank you!

I have to guess that, not knowing what a DMG is, you’re either on Windows or brand new to the Mac. If the former, the Unity IDE is Mac-only for now. If the latter, just double-click on it; OS X will mount the disk image and you can then run the installer.

A .dmg is disk image. Double-clicking should open it just fine. Are you using a Mac? You can open it from Disk Utility if double-clicking does not work.

Thank you for the replies, I’m using Windows XP…

Ah. I believe you will find this to be the root of many other problems as well.

No… I really prefer Windows :)…

So, I have no way to use this engine? I downloaded the demo “Avert Fate” (for windows) and I see all the screenshots of the engine… because this, I downloaded the engine… I have a company of game Development (www.dynamicgames.com.br), and if exist some way for me use this engine in Windows, please, tell me.

Regards.

::Chunders::

You can’t use it in Windows now, but you will be able to eventually. That will be an awesome day for you.

When? Do you know?

No one really does, but here’s a place to find a bit more info from the CEO:

Ok!, Thank You!

I’m going now search any other engine :frowning:

Why don’t you try running OS X on a PC?

I hate Windows, but I also hate Apple’s forcing you to run their OS only on their hardware (even though I would probably still buy their hardware anyway). So, I kind of support this action.

In the meantime, buying a Mac is another viable option. If you know someone who uses a mac, you can also try it out first.

If you’re new to game development and/or are serious about creating good games fast, Unity cannot be beat for easy of use and power. It is worth buying a Mac. You won’t regret it!
