Devblog #01 - Introdution

Hello adventurer, welcome to the first devblog of the STDP. Calm down, do not worry about not knowing exactly what the STDP is, let’s explain everything in this chapter of our logbook .

-What does the acronym mean?
Maybe this is the main question of first-time adventurers, STDP stands for “Space, Time and Dimensions Protectors”

-Hi? What? Space-time I understand, but … Dimensions? Are you crazy?
Crazy? No not yet. And yes, dimensions, plural, but calm … We can explain, however, every good story needs to have a suspense, so let’s leave it for later.
But remember, dimensions, in the plural!

-Okay, but what do they do?
They are responsible for protect all the places in any time period (in all existing dimensions)… Yes, it is a very stressful job and the salary is not even that good.

– Does that mean they can travel in time ?? And can they go anywhere ??
Well… Yes, they can, but this is a serious job, without them, the peace, harmony and stability of our multiverse would be lost, they only go where they need, just like super heroes.

-What? Multiverse? EXPLAIN!
See? The suspense did not make the story more interesting? Well, I think it’s time for you to know a bit more.
Imagine that each point in space in each time period has a “brother”, but that they are not necessarily alike, they are just ‘made for each other’.
In formal terms, each point in the space-time of our universe is called the dimensional point, and each other universe (dimension) has an equivalent dimensional point, not equal or similar, only equivalent, and the junction of all these dimensions form a multiverse.
So, do you know the bogeyman we feared so much until we ‘discovered’ that he is not real? How can I say… hm… He exists, actually, THEY exist, at least in the Universe Z-56, but do not worry, they are scared to death of humans beings.

I know, it’s a lot of information to process, so, no more questions for today’s. Next week we’ll answer some more, which for those who do not know, they can be made by sending a message to our HQ at the following address:

-But … You did not even mention the project! Why did you call me here? What is the purpose here? How will it work?
Oh, thank you for reminding me, I was about to forget … But so, do you remember that thing about suspense? So come back here tomorrow, I promise to tell you everything …

We recommend to see the full post on our site, due the formatting.

Hello again adventurer, as promised, here is the second part of our logbook (remember, he’s actually weekly).
Today, we are talking about the part of the game, which will be the gameplay, the functionality and the goal in STDP.

Genre:
The game will be 2D Platform mixing adventure and strategy with a certain sense of humor involved.

History:
A mysterious villain known only by the nickname of Time Controller, due to your power to control time discovers that we live in a multiverse and the possibility of opening rifts between them. After a time learning more about the operation, Time Controller just implementing a plan to open the cracks and through mind control master the largest armies that exist in any time period anywhere in the world in any of the universes present in the multiverse.
Meanwhile in the central universe is the HQ of Space Time & Dimensions Protectors (STDP), a team of chosen to defend stability and maintain the harmony of the multiverse as we know it.

Through different scenarios in different eras, such as the fearsome dinosaurs, the dreaded pirates and even futuristic robots, it is for the survivors of STDP finish with the Time Controller plans and save the world from evil empires and armies which blend mythologies, tales, supernatural and true stories.

Functionality and Gameplay:
We have already made a post about it on our website, in case you haven’t seen it yet, just click here. But while we’re writing this paragraph even, Let’s enjoy and write about how the game works (ironically, will write in the next paragraph).
The team in the game is composed of 3 characters, being an attack, a defense and a support, each with own skills, which will be explained soon. The goal now is to know how to use these characters, combining their powers to solve the challenges. Don’t worry, we will explain the traps, puzzles and enemies on futures Devblogs.
In addition to the Single-Player mode, you also have the option of Local Cooperative and Online, for fun with your friends.

Characters:
In the coming devblogs we will talk with more detail about each type of characters, but insummary we have:
Attack: able to cause damage at close and long range.
Defense: Powerful shield and ability to conjure protective barriers.
Support: in addition to interact with scenery, also has the ability to double jump andsuper speed.
In total there are more than 30 playable characters, totaling more than 1000 different combinations of Teams. And that’s just the officials, not counting those created by players.
It will also be possible to customize existing characters with different Skins and Equipment. Such customization items will be found throughout the game, in hidden chests and daily rewards.

Missions and Scenarios:
The game is divided into scenarios, where each scenario will be set in a different time and place. In addition, each stage will consist of 10 main phases and some extras.
In order to advance the stage, you must have completed at least the 10 main missions. To release the extras, we will depend on other factors, such as choosing the team for the phase, let’s explain better:
In STDP, the player interacts directly with the game in several ways. One is choosing the team for each phase, if it is a poor choice, the level can get more difficult or trigger rivalry events between the characters. But if it was a good choice, the traps and obstacles can be easier, can also have events that benefit the player with extra rewards in the level and even unlock new extra missions for that stage.

Did you like the idea of customization and character creation? Well … I hope so, because we will also have builders of levels. Thus, in addition to more than 100 official maps, there will be many maps made by players.
It is also important to note that at each scenario three new characters are released, one for each function of the game, that is, one new team per scenario.

Obviously there is still a lot more to be told, but as we said in the previous devblog, we love suspense. We’ll be back next week with more news and explanations for you.

Hello Adventurer, ready for more one devblog? Today we’ll talk about the HUD in-game during missions, explaining the all elements and their respective functions. Don’t know what is a HUD? That’s okay, we’ll explain.

Meaning:
Before you begin, let’s explain exactly what is HUD, according to the Cambridge Dictionary, we havethe following meaning:

Abbreviation for head-up display: in a computer game, the part of the screen that shows information such as the player’s score, how much time they have left, etc.

So we can understand what basically is a HUD, but in simple terms, it’s basically the screenelements that show informations to players, such as points, lives, time, and etc.

HUD in STDP:
Now let’s go to what you wait for, let’s introduce the HUD in the phases and missions. To ensure a better UI (User Interface) we made it pretty minimalist, so you won’t have a lot of information to disrupt the player or take off the focus from the phase.

We have added a provisional Background just for better understanding, now let’s explain part bypart.

Lifes:

In the upper left corner we see the remaining life of the team. When anyone of the three main characters dies, the team loses a life, regardless of which hero died.In total we’ll have three lives, when there is no remaining life, the mission ends and go to the game over screen. This is very original, isn’t it? What do you mean with “no”?

Team:

Still at the top, we have the icons of the characters and their particular functions (which we’ll explainin detail below).
Each icon represents a hero present in the current team, where the only highlight is what is currently selected, and the greys are the other two who are sad for not beingchosen to represent this devblog.

“The Chosen One”:

Below we have a character alone in the spotlight, followed by two rectangles and again a functionicon.
This character is who we are currently controlling, in this case the attack. The two rectanglescorrespond respectively to primary and secondary skills.
Each one will have their own arts, that is, although it has the same function, the icons for skills will change according to his personality, appearance and history.

*These two retangles are provisional arts

Functions:
t’s time to explain those icons that appear all the time, doesn’t it?

Attack:
Has the ability to attack in short and long-distance.In the case of the character of the image, hitting with a book or fling it.

Defense:
Has the ability to protect with shield or create a barrier. In the case of this heroin, a magical shield using the stick or a mystical energy barrier.

Support:
Has the ability to interact with the map and enhance yourself (speed and double jump). In the case of Grawh (our dear Orc Hacker), invade the stage and do a hack to his attributes.PS: Grawh will not be banned.

Time:

As a spectacular detective I know you are, you should have seen that lack only talk about the clock on the top. Well, he will mark how much time that the mission is being played, both for in the future ensure a good position in the rankings and to be used to give the final score of the level.

If the player chooses a cleaner version of the screen, it may hide the time at any time of the game.

That’s it for now, in the future we will make more devblogs showing the other graphical interfaces of the game, as the menus and level editor. Want to know when will happen these blogs?Simple, just follow us on our social networks to stay on top of everything.

This game looks quite cool, but perhaps change the name? STDP sounds alot like STD, and you probably don’t won’t your game to reference that. Maybe that was intentional, but I just thought I would let you know.

The game looks quite good though, I do enjoy a good strategy game and I also think the art looks pretty solid!

Oh good - I thought it was just me who thought that.
Agree with Raven, game art looks good, name sounds like a disease.

I never had heard this abbreviation beforem i`ll look for a change oO

This week we will do the first Devblog abouth the Scenario and this time we will speak of the Traps and the Visual of our maps.

Camera and Distance:
Let’s start talking about the camera and the distance that we have from the characters. The game, as has been said previously, is in 2D platform style, mixing adventure and strategy. For this reason it is obvious that the camera needs to be in 2D, we only need to think about if it would be more open and clean or with more graphics elements, in this case, we prefer the first option.

However, the distance is already a bit more complicated at the same time that we are looking for more open and clean view, we need to define what the player can view at once.
With a very small space, there’s no way to make a good adventure, on the other hand, if it’s too large, will be obvious what have ahead, ending the strategy.
So, we made an average between the two, giving as much to make a good strategy as to venture through the map… Check out how it looks:

The above image already has the ratio for our HUD shown in the last devblog. Lost the HUD devblog? Easy, you can see it here:
http://playstdp.com/blog/en/devblog-en/devblog-03-hud/

Visual:
We could lose lines explaining the visual of the scenario, but it is as they say, a picture is worth than a thousand words. Then I leave here a few thousand words:

Rock skull next to a pirate lookout post. They say it’s a real fossilized giant of the seas, but we can not prove the story:

Bridge over a river, only the righteous can pass (or those who know how to lower a bridge):

Just a harmless volcano, ready to erupt and become not so harmless:

A pirate warehouse. There must be a lot of Whiskey in there to have so much protection:

Traps:
You may have noticed some in the images above, but we will show more closely and with better explanations:

Let’s start with these two, on one side a sharp metal pendulum, on the other, wooden fish. Which do you think is more dangerous? That’s right, the wooden fish, after all, the pendulum just doesn’t shoot poisonous darts:

As every good story needs secret passages, we have decided to make this secret cave with a dinosaur skull to scare the curious and the cowards:

Good … You already know how a cannon works, just aim and make Boom:

What would a desert be without deadly spinning saws to traverse its sands?

And to finish, a good old abyss could not be missing:

For now it’s just, we will soon do the second part, with more traps, enemies, challenges, more enemies and various new environments and scenarious.

Do not you want to be cut off by pendulums, poisoned by fish, blown up by cannons or stuck at the bottom of abysses?

I’ve played a few games like this where you have two or three characters, each with a unique skill set. It’s a fun way to do a problem solving game. I look forward to seeing how yours turns out =)

Thanks Bakuda
I believe that by the end of next month we will launch a demo

Enemies is something that couldn’t be missing in the game, right? Today it’s exactly what we are going to present, so get ready to meet some of the enemies you will face in your adventure.

Enemies:
In addition to the traps previously exemplified in our Devblog # 04, which you can see by clicking here, we will also have challenging enemies trying to disrupt the adventure of our heroes.

Just like the rest of the game, enemies are divided by scenarios, i means, in the period of pirates we will have some sailors, pirates, sea monsters and even a parrot chatter, while in the medieval we will have knights, mages and dragons.

In the game will also have enemies by difficulty levels, such as slow or fast melee damage, a straight or oblique releases from short or long distance, as well as enemies with unique weaknesses that should be discovered :).

Today we are presenting some of the enemies of basic difficulty in the Jurassic period.

Neanderthal - Melee Damage:

Don’t let all this beauty and cuteness deceive you, it may look like a sweet person, but it’s pretty fierce and dangerous.

Neander, as we call it, will be an initial enemy who walks from one side to the other until he finds some prey (you in this case).

Below we have a preview of how the mechanics of Neander will work:

Neanderthal - Ranged Damage:

Now we have the most famous Jurassic Boomerang launcher, Naender, cousin of Neander.

Unlike his cousin, he prefers to hunt prey at a distance, throwing his boomerang. Guess Who’s the prey again? That’s right, you!

Below we have a preview of how the mechanics of Naender will work:

For today, it’s just, adventurer. Soon we will make the next parts, where we will show the bosses and unique enemies, each one with a different kind of skill or weakness.Don’t you want to lose the date and get out of the news? Simple, follow us in social networking:

As we explained in previous Devblogs, we have several characters that will be unlocked when the player advances in the history mode.
Today we will talk a about these characters and how to release them.

Character Unlock System:
Each stage (set of 10 phases) will have three unlockable characters, one for each function of the game (attack, defence and support).
To unlock them the player must defeat them or just help on some mission.

As we also said in previous Devblogs, the main villain of the game (Time Controller) have the power to create an army of mini villains through a magic to control the minds of them, as was the case of Dirty Beard and the Seaborg, which will be presented in the Devblog today.
When this is the case, these characters will try to stop the team of heroes to complete their quest, however, by defeating them and releasing them from the mind control, they’ll join the STDP squad to defeat the Time Controller.

Characters such as Lorelei, who will also be presented here, will be friendly with the STDP squad and will also be fighting the Time Controller, just help them on their missions to unlock them to the playable team.

After dirty beard recover his ship and crew, he returned to his journey to the dominion of the Seven Seas, until he was mentally controlled by Time Controller and joined his army.
