Steam question

Hello everyone.
Got a question about steam.
If the game is free on steam and i sell items inside (its a multiplayer game), then will steam cut a % of the income i get from in game sales?

Yes (or at least you have to use their API with which I believe they will take a cut from): Steam Documentation

I believe Valve takes a 30% cut from all things sold on Steam.
Besides the community market, that is.

thx for ur answers.
But i wont be using steam in any other way as advertisement? not sure how to say it just to be inside. Also shop will sell skins and such things, that wont be saved in steam but in our database

I’m not sure what you mean. You cannot use Steam just to advertise a game; you have to actually publish it on the platform, and the 30% cut to all transactions will apply when you do.

That 30% may seem a lot, but the Steam platform will bring in more users to more than balance things out. Even for a free game with microtransactions, releasing to Steam is a no-brainer.

Yeah but we will not be using steam’s system for payments, only a custom one

Then they probably won’t even let you on the platform.

Read what I linked above, that is not allowed. It is like selling your own food in someone else’s restaurant
