Hey, I’m currently learning game development and unity is my first game engine… so as a first game I decided to make a horror game BUT I can’t figure out a good story for my game and because of that, I am blank at the map part also… So it would be of great help if you guys could help me…
currently, I have 3 ideas
[ * ] An abandoned mine…
But how would I scare the player here? [ * ] Ghost town -
This one is good but again why would someone go to a ghost town and even if they did go there why will they stay there? [ * ] Old house -
I like this one but I would need a good map for the house and nice models…
Now if you guys have any other suggestion please share it would help me a lot…
Every sound, not matter how far or how small, is amplified by the rock chambers. Seeing something disappear behind a turn just as player turns a flashlight to see where they’re going would be Nice. Also you could include a shoddy, occasionally failing light system for extra atmosphere. Have a canary fly by every once in a while.
How about the following settings:
-psychiatric ward
-old sewer system
-morgue
-metro track
-a non-tropical forest that actually looks like a forest (I find forests in majority of games to be too clean, too empty.)
-lake island
-unexplored caves
-a warehouse
?
Ghost town sounds more ambitious. Start with something smaller, Old House seems fine and something fun to do, then you can grow it with a sequel if you wish
Second that, ALOOOT of scifi, and also alot of stylish low poly. The problem with stylish low poly is that two kits, never will work together, if you stick with realistic chances is you can kit bash.
I wish there was more packs focusing on buildings for open world games in modern setting. Its not alot in that area.
Easiest would be to start with an outdoors setting. Like woods. Reason is because you can get tons of assets easily and relatively cheap for that, and you don’t have to worry as much about content working together.
And the woods at night is naturally scary. Get yourself something like vegetation studio, a wolf or bear model or maybe sasquatch or something, and all you have to do from there is write the code to make the beast stalk player. Add in twig snapping noises, heavy breathing, turn down the lights… easy!
Wow, you guys are giving some really awesome ideas,
Now to the point:
as AndersMalmgren and many other said and provided some very good assets. Since I don’t think I’ll be able to spend any money (LIKE REALLY NOTHING, $ == 0, sighs :() so… but I found this one :
so what do you guys think about this ??? I think maybe I could make something with this
:):):)
“So what map would you guys like to see in a good horror game?”
Well, you cant make a good horror game without either A) make all the assets yourself with PBR materials etc or B) Shell out some serious cash for triple A assets
Game development is not inexpensive. If you can’t afford anything you’ll either (a) have to learn how to make the content yourself, (b) find people to collaborate with in some fashion who can make it, or (c) develop a simpler game in the hopes that you will eventually have an income from them to fund the game you want to make.
