I’m wondering what tools you use when creating images for a storyboard?
Do you go for a tablet and a software or pen and paper?
I’m wondering since i’m just about to create a storyboard for a story I’m writing (which will turn into a game). But I have very little experience in drawing by hand, but I’m determined to learn it to a level where I can create just good enough storyboard images.
I’d love to get your tips to get going on this. I have a small budget to buy software, tools, or enroll to a course online somewhere to learn this craft.
I have a storyboard I am cooking up as well. I am using a tablet. I am considering for images to complex to sketch using a base male and female and rigging and posing them quick and dirty then drawing over that. or is that taking it too far?
That sounds like a very good idea that I can use as well.
Is it a 3D-model of a base character that you rig and pose, and then drag and drop that into a storyboard drawing?
Thanks!
I started out with pen and paper for now. I decided that before i can draw i’ll spend my money on a drawing course first. I’ll probably buy a tablet and pen later on! I’ll post some storyboard images soon.
If anyone else is starting out from scratch i thought I’d post some of the findings i make. If you’ve got more resources feel free to add them to this thread as well.
Tutorials on art
I’ve currently been using the tutorials from CGCookie on Concept art and since I’ll be adding a city to my game the tutorial on 2D perspective has been very useful.
Tools
As I said above i’ve been starting out with pen and paper. But i’m getting more and more interested in a tablet and pen combined with the Krita Digital Painting software. It has a feature called drawing assistants that help out with the 2d-perspectives which i currently rely quite a bit on, since they have been the easiest to learn about.
