strange maya behavior with extracted faces

Hi,

I have seen a rather strange behavior of unity towards extracted faces in maya 2008.
Briefly what I did:

  1. Polygon Box
  2. Extract one face, delete the rest
  3. apply texture to this face
  4. save out

Unity displays the face wth a lot of weird boxes around, e.g. a box called “translate”. somehow it still has the deleted data too. I tried to do a delete history in maya, but still the same. Does anybody know why this is?

I’m just curious, why would you do this when you could just make a plane and texture it? Or, alternatively, you could create a cube, select all the faces but one, delete them, and texture that?

Open up the Outliner and delete any empty nodes in there. That will fix the problem.
