Can anyone give me a brief instruction how to get a simple house I made with Strata 5.5 into Unity?
If Strata exports .obj or .fbx you can give that a go. I haven’t used Strata, but you may find the files it exports aren’t exactly ideal for importing into a game engine like Unity and may need to be “cleaned up”.
I have tried that with limited success. The best results to date were from exporting as a .wrl1 and removing the 1 at the end of the extension and reopenining it in Strata, the re exporting it again as a .wrl1 and removing the1 again. The open it using AmapiPro and exporting it as a 3d studio.3ds. But some of the wall loose their thickness. And a few other minor problems.
I’m working with Strata 6.1.1, and have a work around for getting Strata models into Unity.
Unfortunately, Unity doesn’t import Collada files well. Strata exports to Collada, but when you import that into no mesh(es) show up.
You need to use tif files, and all your texture names and object names need to have no spaces or the textures won’t show up in Wings 3D
In Strata 3d, export to .obj, then import that .obj into Wings 3D.
Make sure Wings is in Body selection mode (vs edge, vertex or face selection mode)
Select the obj mesh, hold down CTRL and click on screen. In the pop-up menu that appears, select “Separate”. This breaks the single obj mesh down into it’s component parts.
You’ll lose all your object names, but your textures will remain in place.
In Wings, export to .dae format (Collada).
Drag that file into Unity and your model will show up. Sometimes you have to replace textures as Unity doesn’t ready them properly, applying the wrong texture to an object.
I have never used Strata, but I can guarantee you that “Ultimate Unwrap” can do any conversion you need. If Strata has FBX support then you wont need it, but if it doesnt then you will want to get “Ultimate Unwrap”. It is a handy little app that can convert any file format, here is a list of the file formats it can work with Ultimate Unwrap 3D - UV Mapping Software . I definitely recommend this program a lot.
