For Colin Mcrae Dirt 2, looking at the image I’d say that there is
-Really light blur on the scenery (not the car)
-Edge blur for speed
-Some bloom
-Particles
-Lens flare
3 or 4 lights lightning the car
1 or 2 lights lightning the scenery
The car itself could have an array of reflection maps that “fade” between each other depending on where the car is on the circuit.
Expecially the slight blur on anything in the scenery but the car.
It gives a more uniform view of everything, and you do not need to look at the foliage of a bush to appreciate a racing game, your attention is driven elsewhere, so it’s a good trick.
The second one looks photo-real (terrain and car) but he people do not blend well but look “put in”,
not mentioning the same guy is like every third person.
The first one defiantly has some vignetting and edge bur. It also has color correction to make it a bit more vibrant and internal lens flares. I also notice some chromatic aberration on the fence post in the foreground.
