What time did you download the game? We had a bad build up there, but it was replaced 15 hours ago… so if you downloaded it when I first posted, it will be the wrong build.
very fun polished seon - man you guys are really cranking stuff out now ; )
one critique i have is at slower speeds the buggy control seems too spongy - i find it frustrating trying to manuver on the trickier parts of the course - IMO while moving slow i should be able to stop turn on a dime not slide around so much. lots of times i’d end up gently sliding off a ledge when all i as doing was slowly turning around.
We have had mixed feedback on the car turning… some people want more sliding and skidding, some want finer control, some think it handles too delicately, some think it should react like a 2 week bike.
And some people like it how it is… I’m happy to keep tweaking it, but I am never going to please everyone.
Do you want to try this version? See if you prefer the steering here?
tried the new version IMO there’s really the same problem. if you’re just fooling around the controlls are ok but when you really start trying to get the boxes quickly can get frustrating.
went up on one of the flat platforms lining the outer wall - stopped - tried to do a 3 point turn. does not work - you will slide off the platforms unless you move maddeningly slow or just get lucky. you can j-turn fairly reliably though.
went on the spiral staircase like ramp tried to get a box from a non-centered position at a slowish speed - once you’re not going in a straight line down the middle you end up sliding off.
the issue with this is from a stop or slow speed if you press forward the buggy sits there for a second then jumps forward slides out of proportion with the momentum (like you’re on ice really).
i’d say in general there’s too much slide - riding around the outer ring you can’t hold yourself off the outside wall at top speed - you try to slow to correct because of the lack of traction end up reversing yourself or falling off.
a few suggestions to try if you’re interested, i don’t know how you have the car physics set up but if you could have it where:
-more traction overall (i don’t know how much exactly but i’d say you should be able to ride the outer ring at full speed without sliding into the outside wall).
-under a certain speed traction should be really tight (letting go of the gas slows you very quickly, hitting reverse stops you immediately).
-at high speed slight turns are tight but a hard turn will cause you to loose traction. maybe use a buttondown timer on your turn keys to alter the amount of traction at various speeds.
Don’t like the controls at all, you jam the button and the car still doesn’t turn. I guess some people like this style but I prefer games with lots of control (Pod Racer is an old favorite as are the burnout games). Let me know if you change the controls around so I can give it another shot. -Jeff
ok, im not seeing these issues you guys are talking abhout.
The car is super responsive here… in modes from good to fantastic, running on a G4 powerbook right up to our Intel iMacs (both ATI and Geforece)… and also on our worst PC’s a P4 with geforce2MX.
I’ts totally steerable and playable.
So can we get some more details from you all regarding platforms you are experiencing this on? Resolutions you are playing it at? quality settings?
in both the 1.1 and 1.1.1 releases the steering is really low at high speeds. I cannot turn fast enough to make it around the outer circle of the demo map when I am at top speed.
It also seems pretty sluggish in general.
I think I might like 1.1.1 better but it might just be me getting used to it.
Mac pro on fantastic at 1024 x 700 and whatever full screen.
Hey Seon, the 1_1 build works now. I like it-with pretty much a couple of reservations:
The camera needs to be a bit more settled down overall I thought, It made me a bit spinny when it jumps around all over the show so much. And maybe a bit more grip on the tyres?
Cheers and Well done. Thanks for the demo!

Mac Pro, Fantastic at 2560x1600 full screen, 512MB VRAM, 1GB RAM, Quad 3 Ghz. (I’ll have 5GB of RAM tomorrow so I’ll give it another spin and I’ll try it at a lower resolution). -Jeff
