Stuttering and frozen camera feed after adding face masks

We have developed an AR app with acceptable performance. So far, we’ve only used world-facing AR, but now we’d like to use the front camera and face masks as well.

It kinda works. However, since we added face masks to the app, we quite often see that the selfie camera feed starts stuttering, or even completely freezes. This happens on an iPhone 12 Pro Max, which should have decent processing power.

What might cause this behavior?

This is the error we get when the camera feed freezes:

Execution of the command buffer was aborted due to an error during execution. Ignored (for causing prior/excessive GPU errors)
