Suggestions on modeling + rigging/animation software for Mac

I am still a beginner modeler(been modeling for about 3 months) and since I started I’ve been using Blender for modeling and rigging and it have worked quite well for me. However, I’ve been reading around that Blender might work well but is not really efficient and such. I want to try out some other software, so here I am asking for suggestions on what software would be better for modeling and rigging/animation. I would like opinions to be unbiased and totally objective.

cheers and thanks in advance =]

The least efficient part of Blender is the learning curve. Sounds like you are likely already past that, in which case Blender is extremely efficient. For just modeling, I’ve heard good things about Silo, and it’s only $109 right now, but it only does modeling, not rigging/animation/etc. You can download a trial to check it out.

A lot of Mac users seem to like Cheetah 3d (http://www.cheetah3d.com/) and it’s only $99 right now and does animation as well as modeling, so it might be a good choice.

Indeed, I have gotten used to Blender with the basic tools. I might take a look at Cheetah 3D, but since you said that Blender is efficient I’ll play a bit more with it. I wanted to know cuz I was doubting if Blender was a good program to get used to or just avoid it cuz I was reading some reviews that were completely bashing it and talked about how I should avoid it and such. Thanks for sharing your opinion =]

Really good stuff right there and everything is made using blender

Well, you should try out the trials of various programs to see if any of them feel better to you. I prefer blender myself and haven’t been able to be as efficient with other ones I’ve tried, but you might have a different experience. If you plan to do a lot of modeling, taking the time to try out the alternatives would be a good idea so you can find the one that feels best to you. Feel free to post your impressions of the ones you try on here to help others facing the same decision.

Will do, I’ll try and experiment with different programs. Right now tho, I’ll stick with Blender for a bit longer, that link that uchiha shared has some really solid models and I was amazed of what you can do with Blender. Thank you for sharing your opinions and once I try out the programs I’ll share my experience and I hope they help someone.
