Super Dance XPerienz 92 - Free web alpha

Hey, check out our latest alpha:
http://www.usefulslug.com/dance/

Super Dance XPerienz 92 started as a bit of a joke to try to mix Dance Dance
Revolution with QWOP.
Out of that idea spawned the current game mechanic where you try to
control a single limb at a time during a dance, and that’s not as easy as
it sounds. The game is themed to the 90s with pulsating, eye-bleeding
background patterns and a foreground dancer, making for a pretty realistic
90s music video experience. We decided to make a free web alpha version to
get people’s reactions, so please share the link with your friends and on
your social medias. Hope you enjoy!

I thought this was an interesting idea, and I’m interested to see how it develops. My initial impressions of the webplayer version are: 1) I didn’t particularly care for the background colors and 2) I wasn’t sure exactly what I was doing in the game. I could tell that pressing one of the arrows seemed to turn the player (maybe?), and clicking on the player might cause a limb to start moving. But, I’d suggest some kind of instructions/tutorial for new players.

And, can we get a replay button? It was hard to watch the player dance while watching the instructions/feedback, and it would be great to be able to hit replay at the end.

Cheers for the feedback. There is a replay button but it was just the only arrow at the end, I’ve labeled it more clearly now with “Replay”.
There is a crash zoom in and the short instruction “do the hand” or “do the foot” when you are supposed to move the hand/foot. Some of the fun is in the discovery of the mechanic so I don’t want to make it too tutorialy.

Ah, I see: thanks for pointing out the replay arrow! I understand the idea of leaving the game open to exploration, but in my own (very short) experience with the game, I didn’t really know what “do the foot” means. Others might have a different impression, but if I had come across the game (in its current form), I would likely have been confused and given up quickly.

Cheers! This is why we have it as a free alpha for now, to get feedback like this! I’ll let more people chime in and if there is some consensus I’ll definitely put in some tutorial element or make it clearer.
