Support for low-resolution (pixel art) textures and sprites

I noticed that Muse textures are 512x512 at a minimum.
I’ve had a hard time generating lower-resolution, pixelated, point-filtered textures for old-school looks. Just downsampling those textures isn’t giving the appropriate looks. I wish Mus would allow me to generate point-filtered textures down to sizes like 64x64 to 128x128.

Are there some tricks I can apply, maybe I missed something?

Hey thank you for your feedback, @CodeSmile!

@ShaneeNishry has also helped to pass this on to the relevant teams.

Were you thinking more like a pixel art kind of texture? Like the grass texture from this screenshot of Honeymancer?

From what we understand, it’s currently not supported at this moment but your request has been noted down in the team’s backlog for feature consideration.

To better understand your use case, may we also know what are you creating?
Would it be used as a:

  • Tileable material to be mapped onto a 3D object or
  • Tileable Sprite to be used as a 9-sliced or for a SpriteShape etc.
  • Or something else all together?

Thank you!

It falls in the “something else” category.
I know 2D is strong for mobile but this isn’t the kind of textures I’m looking for.
(somehow I managed to sneak in two Star Wars tropes into a single sentence)

I wish to generate 3d environment textures for the 90s retro action game look, specifically the likes of Quake and Doom but similar textures would work for most retro 3d games. Here’s a few 128x128 samples from the texture pack I use (linked below):

Or if we take a more modern approach: Boomer Shooters. Like Prodeus or WRATH (Aeon of Ruin), Cultic, The Last Exterminator.

Thank you @CodeSmile! Those are very helpful examples of retro, point-filtered textures. Thank you for the great game examples too!

I see what you mean now. Let me also share this piece of valuable feedback with the Texture team.
