[Survey] Want to know if there is any interest in online Unity lessons

Hi All,

Thanks for having a look at my thread. Now that I have a little bit of spare time, and I know there are lots of people out there who are interested in learning about Unity, I want to see if there is any interest in online Unity “classes”.

I would be in a password protected livestream. You could pay either per lesson, or pay for a bulk number of sessions. Other people would be on this livestream and I would take Skype calls or questions directly through the chat and answer them as they came through. The very first streams would discuss the basics of Unity. At the end of the streams we would have a simple game created that would utilize all the basics of Unity and allow you to create a game on your own.

Everything would be based in C#. If there was any artwork needed or prerequisite files, I would provide them beforehand. Each live stream would be 1 hour long. I would provide a schedule online and also a topic of what we will go over on that date.

Let me know if this is something you, or someone you know, would be able to learn from. If there is enough interest, I will follow through with it.

Thank you,

– Tate

I personally wouldn’t pay for Unity lessons, as I can usually learn what I need on my own or through other resources, but for many people I’m sure this would be a good opportunity. It may be easier for you in a Google Hangout, as you can choose who enters and you can take questions directly from a smaller amount of people watching.

Do you imagine this different than say the Walker Boys lessons or the Unity series up on UDemy? There is also enough material up on Youtube, full HD lesson series on almost every type of game imaginable. Then there’s the series from 3DMotive.com , Digital Tutors and Unity’s Official training and the myriad of books available. Much of this covering the basics ‘ad nauseum’

That said, if you offered something fresh, unique and compelling, I absolutely believe there would be a market for this type of ‘next level’, semi personalized training. In the Spring there was a course like this that was entitled "Make Your First Video Game in 4 Weeks from Scratch with Unity (no coding!) " It was hosted on SkillShare.com It was a 4 week course, that focused on making games in Unity with Playmaker. Students would have goals for each week, then there would be a hosted ‘Instructor Time’, and hour or more each week, that went over student’s submitted assignments (game in progress). There was a forum where students who were taking the course, could communicate, share thoughts, help and show off what they were doing. Other than it was pretty basic, the course was very well organized and executed. Students made there own game by the end (Could even win a copy of Unity), and the Instructor, Brandon Wu took everyone step by step through building several complete game projects (thought relatively prototypish).

Hopefully this was helpful… Good Luck!
