System.Net.Sockets in Web-Player

Are there any restrictions when bulding for the web-player? Is there any kind of sandbox? If so, what is limited from the mono framework?
My question is because I tried Joachim´s networking sample at and I can use it OK when building for Mac Standalone, but the browser crashes when I build and run it for the Web Player.

Any ideas?

They disabled several things for the web player for security reasons (like file access).

I am not sure about .net sockets, but if they disabled it it shouldn’t actually crash your browser. I would file a bug if possible.


At the moment sockets are disabled, in the web player for security purposes.
With 1.6 we are adding secured support sockets in the web player.
(Only to a server of course, otherwise you could access files on local servers from a web player)
