I’m trying to hep put a computer together for my Niece, and I have a question. due to budget issues I have to part this out by prices.
Will an AMD Ryzon 5 1500X 4 core cpu properly run Unity, Maya, 3dS Max, etc…
Or should we go with and AMD FX 8350 8 core?
The rest of the system other than Motherboard and RAM (FX: DDR3; Ryzen DDR4) is pretty much the same. I know the Ryzen system will allow for more upgrade options in the years to come, but will that entry level CPU give her a few years use.
The AMD FX 8350 is the equivalent in multi-threaded performance to an AMD Ryzen 5 1400. It’s the culmination of a series of processors that was so inferior to Intel that it almost bankrupted AMD. About the only people who bought it were those who were unwilling to buy Intel or already had a motherboard with the socket.
If you already have a computer that is compatible I could understand buying it but otherwise it’s a waste of money.
Actual system requirements are going to depend on the content you’re creating with them. Unity is capable of running on just about any 64-bit computer that supports Windows, macOS, or Linux. Oldest hardware I have tried was a Core 2 Duo with 2GB of RAM and a GeForce 8400. The Roll-a-Ball tutorial was barely playable.
If she already has a computer I recommend trying the apps on it first to see if it holds up.

Yeah, I used to upgrade all the time, but in family life I’m lucky i am able to upgrade every 8 years. Ladt spring i went from an Athlon dual core to the FX 8350, so to me it’s awesome. Sucked a few months after putting my system together they started talking about Ryzen. It’s been out now for a few months and i needed to know how it was doing. Your feedback helps a lot in get her the best set-up even if it’s entry level. If I can run lumber yard and all the other programs with my FX 8350, and y’all say the Ryzen 5 out performs, that’s the way I’ll go with it!
For example today Intel no longer sells the 7700k at 308$, PCPP switched to another vendor but if you look on google shop you’ll find it for 308$. At walmart of all places.
