"Tab" in always Tab even if mapped to other keys

Full disclosure: just a hobbyist, no formal education. Sorry if I’m misunderstanding something.

I am trying to redo a game UI in new system alongside the new Input System and I’m having an issue I don’t understand.

I have my GameObject with the UI Document component and the Input System Event System (ISES) component. The ISES component has my Input Action Asset and everything is set up properly, to the best of my knowledge. See screenshot.

The Input assigned to Tab Action is mapped to the L and R shoulder/bumper buttons on my game controller, and to Q and E on the keyboard, but when I enter Play mode it is always mapped to tab/shift-tab. The shoulder buttons on my controller don’t do anything, nor do whatever keys on the keyboard I map it to.

Even if I leave Tab Action set to “None” it is still tab/shift-tab. Conversely, if I set Navigation to “None” the keyboard/controller navigation stops working. So Navigation is working as I expect it to but Tab isn’t.

Has anyone encountered anything similar? Any solutions?

Unfortunately it’s hard to tell without an actual repro to test locally. If you think it is a bug, do not hesitate to submit a report by going in the Help->Submit a bug… menu. The project and logs will be zipped so our QA can have a look.

I just submitted the bug report with the same title as this thread. I just moved on to other things for a while and only just came back to it. Hopefully QA can figure it out. It was fairly easy to recreate. Thanks.
