I’m redoing the texture, currently just have the base coat on the tank atm.

hey it look pretty cool , I think you need to get specular in, cause it look kinda flat for now.
also maye a bit more color variation on the texture could be nice , metal with age can give lot of different tint ( even low saturated )
lastely , i think it’s better to look at it with small background behind so you can apreciate how it pop up form the rest of the scene, and adjust texure / shader from that
keep it up anyway it start well
Hmm… I actually like the flat tones. Gives it a sort of “Saving Private Ryan” aesthetic. I do agree, though, that you may want to put it in a scene as it may blend in a bit too much.
Other than that, I like it.
Looks great! I think that spec maps will make this shine! … literally Keep it up!
hey guys, thanks for the reply.
The texture was only on it’s first coat. updated :
http://www.shaunlarkin.net/unity/tank/tank.html
I added a subtle specular on the scratches and bolts based on recommendations. It was a really good suggestion thanks!
The round external fuel tanks kind of remind me of a T-34, I think they were mounted a bit lower though. Believe it or not, this is reasonably safe for diesel.
I don’t know if you noticed or not, but from the front, you can see through the turret because of the gap, then the backfaces being culled from inside.
Also, wouldn’t the gun actually blow the top of the exhaust to bits? It also looks like it would do quite a good job destroying the fuel tanks. It seems awfully short. I could see having it shorter as a matter of style, but it seems a little too short.
The textures are fantastic, I didn’t see the first version, but this version looks great.
that’s a sweet tank, and perfectly on the right side of realism/cartoonish. I want one.
@JRavey : ya, I hadn’t gotten around to plugin’ that gap yet. updated. The short gun is a style choice, it’s suppose to be a bit cartoony. Here are a few tanks with short barrels:
Panzer IV Ausf F1
Panzerkampfwagen iv Ausf D
Churchill Mark IV
Cruiser Tank Mk VIII Centaur
I do agree the barrel could be extended a bit. thanks!
It’s just my opinion, but if you ask me, you should be working for Relic on Warhammer games. Clearly, you are a talented modeler.
“The round external fuel tanks kind of remind me of a T-34”
Awesome! I like the shading / lighting and art style.
It’s very heavy on the AO
Still, it a very well textured tank… However, I would advise against everyones suggestions about specular… Tanks aren’t meant to shine, otherwise you could easily see them
Well, I had to start the texturing over again…don’t ask. It’s currently on it’s first coat of rust/paint.
I finished the modeling, but I still have a while to go with the texture.
@JTBentley - yup, I went overboard, even with the new texture. I’m going to kill some of the AO to even out the values. thanks.
Great work… can’t wait to see it start trundling around and firing
Man, that thing’s burning oil! Looks good, I like the style. What app did you create it with? Were the treads difficult to animate? I know animation like that can be tricky in some apps.
I look forward to seeing it in action, blowing stuff up!
It would look better if you used animated textures for the smoke.
But regardless, it looks very professional. Good work.
Actually, it would be fine as a particle system, if the camera was further away and/or the smoke didn’t spread out as far and live as long.
Tank looks GREAT BTW!
I think the AO is SPOT-ON. Makes it look “solid” versus like a bunch of ambient lit polys. It could a spot of specular, because contrary to the belief (and much to my chagrin), everything catches some sort of light, even dull things. It’s just how much specular you use. Specular adds definition when used correctly.
I figure the ground plane is scrolling UV, but how about the tank treads? How are you animating those?
What modeling software? What’d you use for texturing?
oh i just see the updated version XD,
this look really nice ( floor scrolling a bit fast for my eyes  )
won’t you add some little decal like little text or emblem on it just to break up a bit on the texture …
anyway this is good little tank , not all toon not all real life tank , you get a good balance between the 2 world i think
Cool!
Ok this is very nice,
just suggesting , to have some added cuteness, try adding some secondary animations , like loose hinges and vibrating metal , make it feel like it was assembled by some Drunk elves
regards
Steve
