Target market - everyone?

Title for reference.

Is it possible to design and sell a game in which the target market is everyone? I don’t mean everyone as in the rating, but something that would appeal to a many player denominations as possible.

No.

Thought that might come up; there’s a few in the collab section who could do with reminding.

Can you make an ice cream flavor everyone loves?

cookies cream! lol I think its impossible be at least 1 person wont like your game…

Hello

FaceBook has a large quantity of fairly safe generic games to make any money at these type of games they have micro-transactions so people purchase things like more area space to place buildings or energy expenditure points, Or more turns in a given 24 hr period. The thing is you can make games that are appealing for a large group of players but not everyone is going to see the game as their “cup of tea”… You have game favorites and so have I. and we may never agree on even one game we both like.

You can always have everyone as your target market, but I think it primarily shows inexperience or a lack or understanding as to why you would have a target market in the first place. The more you focus on targeting a specific type of person, the better you are setup that they truly enjoy your game and that your game will have an audience. The larger you cast that net, the less likely you are to be specifically targeting someone who could buy you game, and the less likely you are to actually truly appeal to specific people (which is really important if you want to sell anything).

So I think, yes, you can have everyone as a target market, but it’s a horrible idea.

No no no, that won’t do. Mint Chocolate chip is the only way to go:)

Obviously you are a socialist as everyone knows it is Mint Choc Chip. My learned friend of nomnomnomplant is in accordance with me and therefore, we can only conclude that you suck and must be duly ostracized** from the group.

It’s possible to make a product that appeals to a wide swathe of the human population. But attempting to actually make a product that appeals to a wide swathe of the human population, and then market it to them, is a losing proposition. Air and water and bacteria are about the only three universal constants and as is clear, nobody really planned for it, it just sort of happened. It went viral.***

** You have to stick your head in the ground.

*** That’s a pun. You see what I did there?****

**** Bacteria aren’t a virus.

None of those things are universal, exept maby air exept i think that that is just slang for oxygen and nitrogen.

You’re right, I should have said “three universal constants where titanty is concerned and that he should be made to go without two of them for a few days.” I bet you don’t even like Mint Choc Chip ice cream.

But to address the original topic, if you are attempting to make a product, be it a game or an ice cream flavour, and market it to everyone simultaneously, it is just sheer madness. Obviously different products have different market timings, electronics are generally different to foods in their adoption timings, but you cannot market either of them the same way throughout their lifespan, and to everyone simultaneously. If you could do that, hipsters heads would explode.

In agreement with it is simply not possible to market some things to everyone. A game is definately under this category. Its not like yer selling toilet paper (and im willing to bet theres people that dont use that either) O.o

(Actually - even toilet paper has a very limited market).

You cant please everyone, but you could try pleasing a vast majority.

Yes, I believe the target market can be everyone.

Example : Angry Birds, Doodle Jump, Temple Run.

It is possible to make a product that appeals to a wide variety (look at NES mario)
but marketing is a different thang.

About 25% to 30% of the entire world according to some estimates.

On average Americans use more than Western Europe and Japan.

Choc mint is my favorate  so i never were a white shirt into a cinema as chocolate pices fall on me and i left with melted chocolate on me at the end

A more acurate would have been “worldversal” but even then not everything needs those things, and in most parts of the universe there is no water, nitrogen, oxygen and bacteria making it not a “universal” “constant” if you get what i mean?

Yes, it’s called an iPod. Apple make many different kinds of iPod, some are called iPhone, some are called iPad, many are just called iPod, in a variety of colours, that appeal to a wide variety of people. They did not attempt to make these many variations all at once at the very first try, and they still don’t appeal to everyone.

I disagree, all those games mentioned , i have never heard of, and as for Apple products , never owned one in my life (wife does) not I.

And even after hearing them , the names do nothing for my interest. Well , maybe temple run , looking it up now.

EDITED : looked up the games, not happening.

It can be wide, but it cannot be everyone.

Cannot stand it.

Cannot stand it.

Cannot stand it.

I understand the appeal of some of those games, but the games do not appeal to me. Changing your marketing message won’t get me to like it. Anal sex works on all genders, but no matter how much you market it, advertise it, or change your message, I don’t think I would ever be likely to try it. I understand the appeal of it for some people, but it does not appeal to me.

I bought an iPod as a late adopter, but had an Archos MP3 player for many years. I bought the iPod because it looked like a neat toy. I used it for a few weeks, then put it in a draw and then finally gave it away to a friend. I understand the appeal, but I could never integrate it in to my life as it did not fulfill my needs.

I have an iPad which is a useful tool in my daily life and means I no longer have to carry a laptop everywhere I go. It is integrated because it fulfills a need.

I have no interest in any other Apple product except a 15" MacBook that has Windows 7 on it. No bootcamp, I do not see the point. I use a hackintosh for the most part to compile iOS games. No matter how much Apple markets OS X, it just doesn’t appeal to me. The GUI part of OS X feels “clunky” as a user interface to me. The only appealing part is Terminal as it approximates Unix reasonably closely though even the Unix subsystem these days feels archaic at best.**

** Yes, I know that the OS X kernel is not strictly Unix.

Edit: I stand corrected, just checked Wikipedia and it is certified as a compatible UNIX03 OS these days.
