Terrain scale issues

Hi,

I am relatively new to Unity and working on a project that the scale of the terrain is quite large.

We have several character artists that have been creating the characters at 1.82 meters size, however they are very small in the world. Many are rigged already, so it would be much easier if we could scale the world instead of trying to scale the characters to fit the terrain.

The world is populated with many structures already (they were scaled in Unity), so hopefully there is a way of simply scaling the terrain and structures all at the same time to the size of the characters.

Does Unity take a performance hit when you scale models imported from other 3D software such as Max, Maya etc…?

Also are there any tips from people out there how best to get some ideas of scale when creating a new terrain?

I appreciate any help or advice or pointers to posts that might help.

Thank you.

I’d recommend giving this a try to address your scaling issues. It’s worked wonders for me

Hi,

Thanks for the reply, I read the post you sent, seems like a good utility, but unfortunately I forgot to mention we are Max users, and Maya is not an option.

Is their any Max users that have had similar problems?

We have been working in Meters and setting the fbx exporter to meters on export.

Thank you

Have you tried increasing the scale factor in mesh import settings?

If you are exporting to FBX, you can also set the unit scale in FBX export settings.

Thanks for the reply, I think we will use the method of scaling under the import settings. It seems like the best solution for where we are at in the project.

Have you found any performance issues by using this method?
