Terrain Shadow

Can terrain receive shadow?

There is no option to enable receiving shadow in terrain setting! How can I enable it?

I want my objects to have shadow on the ground which is terrain.

Anybody knows?

You can either calculate lightmapping from your terrain options or set it to receive pixel lighting. Make sure to set your light to project shadows. It is a pro only feature though.

Pixel lighting is cool but sadly the shadows fade out. How can I control the fading amount?

Note: I cannot bake a light map because Unity keeps freezing when bakes light map.

Shadows are controlled through Quality Settings

I have the free version,i am new and have nt been able to cast lightmap shadows either on the terrain.
What can i also do,is there some setting of the light i must first check?

Set the terrain to lightmap.
that way you can get the terrain to get lightmapped shadows.

But you can not get lights to cast realtime shadows, thats a Pro only feature.

Yea, you are right but it seems the terrain shadow is an exception!!! The Quality Settings do not affect terrain shadow!

on the terrain its additionally impacted by the terrain settings, potentially you force the terrain to go low detail early on …

Where is my mistake?

Go to Edit → Project Settings → Quality

There edit the “Shadow Distance”. Also you are viewing it in the editor right now, make sure the quality settings you’ve edited for shadows are also setted for the editor via “Editor Quality:”

I know that but it does not work for terrain shadow! you can simply test it!

try raising your detail distance.

the distance at which the detail drops all “eye candy” is dropped too.

Raise the Tree Billboard Start distance in the Terrain Settings.

Yes, that’s it. Thanks a million.
