I have recently finished a terrain tutorial that covers everything from height map creation to render/terrain settings.
The videos can be found at http://vimeo.com/album/156452
I hope that these are helpful. Let me know what you think.
*Note: this project was built in Unity 2.5

I had a quick look and I found them to be well made and extremely useful.
Thank you very much
Not sure why you have not received more responses because this is a very nice set of tutorials.
Thanks I hope you make more
My connection to the Vimeo is veeeeeeeeery sloooooooow and I’m hanging on 100/10 line here, so it should be very quick.
Very well done, and quite informative.
Thank you.
thanks for the feedback, it is much appreciated.
Thanks alot for these nice videotuts.
Nice set of tutes Corey, thanks for making available.
Is the terrain Custom Lightmap script you show in the 7th video published somewhere. Also what benefits does it offer over the included Unity one.
Thanks.
Yes, artzfx it is on the wiki, published by Forest Johnson. the link is:
This lightMapper is capable of baking shadows from high points caused by the directional light onto the terrain, just like the stock Unity one.
The benefit is that it also bakes in the shadows of tress onto the terrain.
This means that after baking you can delete the directional light object from the hierarchy and keep all of its effects.
I have been using this tool for a while, and absolutely love it.
Please let me know if I can help you any further.
Happy Unity-ing
