what is the status of TerraStreets?

We are working on a prototype for one of our projects and here’s what we came up with, only in 10 minutes of scene setup.

The Terrain uses our custom shader which contains 4 satellite images in 4096 resolution as an 8k colormap and only 2 detail textures with normals blending in near viewing distances to represent grass and rock/sand areas. Also some techniques as global normal map and lighten/darken spattering are involved using the terrain shader. All detail textures and paintings are automatically generated using the upcoming “Terrain Enhancer” component.

There are almost 1 million trees placed on the terrain.

Used plugins in the scene are TerraLand TerraTrees and no outside or manual editing is applied. None of these products are for procedural or run-time generations yet, but you can create desired scenes and stream them as you wish for yourself. All elevation data and satellite images are downloaded automatically by TerraLand-Downloader from NASA ESRI servers and they are used for photo-realistic terrain generation.

Is there any thought of offering this as a service rather than buying the package of software? For example, my game setting is modeled on the area around a certain lake in Northern California. I really only need to run the KML import and then add the trees once. So it seems a bit of overkill to spend $350 to build the layer. On the other hand, if I could give you or someone else the coordinates I’d like turned into a level, and then I get charged a fee, that seems like it would be more like the “usual” purchase of assets.

Do you plan on offering anything like this?

Sorry for the late reply. Actually our priority in the recent months was to upgrade current products and TerraStreets’'s progress was going a bit slow. Its core functionality is close to a finished one but still needs some addons and extra options and also needs its GUI jobs to be done. We’ll let you know about the progress and we try to release it as soon as possible.

In the meantime, we appreciate to know your feature requests regarding TerraStreets.

You can simply search for a location and virtualize that area by generating photo-realistic terrains and then bring details using TerraTrees TerraCity plugins.

Managing of KML files are going to be integrated in TerraLand Beta’s next update as they are in ordinary xml format. Do you only need to parse geo-locations out of your KML files?

We have already done a lot of simulation projects for companies and people here. So there is no problem if you want us to build the level for you. But please keep in mind that based on the level of detail you need for the environment, the prices may vary. We can accept ordinary generated photorealistic terrains which are textured with satellite images and costs a few dollars to complex fully prepared 3D environments which include various features, techniques, assets, scripts, shaders, mass placed and custom 3D models and scene setup variations and obviously costs thousands of dollars.

As for the service, we are working on an online browser based system on our website so that users can easily select a POI (point of interest) and specify other settings (coverage area, number resolution of satellite images, tree and/or buildings placement and etc.) to finally get a package which will be delivered to the customer’s email after a certain amount of time. But I can’t give a rough date about the start of this service for now.
