Test Build Precautions

This might be a question stemming from sheer paranoia, but here goes…

My game is probably a few weeks away from completion and I would like to install it on the devices of a few family members (people I trust) for them to test it. I’m just wondering what precautions would be worth taking to reduce any chance of an incomplete version being leaked out. Aside from stressing the importance of keeping the game under wraps and guarding their devices from cutpurses, what else would you consider?

I will not be distributing the APK file, I’ll be installing it on the devices myself. I assume it’s harder to retrieve an app from the device once it’s installed?

I’m sure it will be hacked as soon as it gets on the market anyway, but hopefully not before then!

Cheers!

If the phone is not rooted, it’s basically impossible to get it off the device.

But you could also lock the game for their devices, if you get the IMEI and check if the IMEI is one of the list of allowed IMEIs. Though this won’t protect you from the game being cracked, but it will make it for less experienced persons impossible to start it on their device. Though IMEI requires an extra permission in order to read it.

The actual question is, why do you need any kind of protection, when you said that you they are people you trust? Asking for questions to prevent of it leaking would actually mean you don’t trust them :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks Tseng, that’s good to know! When I say I trust them, I mean I trust that they wouldn’t intentionally try to screw me; I’m more worried about the unforseen occurring (whatever that might be)
