Testing Windows builds on a Mac?

I’m thinking about testing my Windows builds on my MBP rather than my old, clunky PC (my desk is getting a bit crowded). So is Boot Camp, VM Fusion or Parallels Desktop 3 the way to go?

I haven’t tried VMware, but Parallels is great, easy install, works seamlessly, and even supports 3D pretty well - I’m running ZBrush3 in Parallels, until the OSX version is released. And it’s a good deal for $75. Boot Camping is not near as cool and handy as flipping the screen to Windows, but it’s a cheap solution.

If you’re serious about testing, you should always test on your target platforms. If your audience are Mac Users running Windows then test on these, otherwise i would advice you to test on real PCs too. Beside of this, for commercial pc releases, i would wait for v2.

Yup, you’re right. I was just looking for an easy way to avoid putting yet another monitor on my already cluttered desk. Thanks for the feedback!

I do most of my Windows testing on XP running via Bootcamp on my MacBook Pro (and my main development on the Mac side of the same machine). It has the advantage of convenience and is a lot better than not testing on Windows at all.

I have an additional Windows Vista laptop with fairly new GeForce hardware and an old PowerPC Mac Mini to round out the testing. It’s hardly comprehensive, but not worse than some of the small developers I’ve worked for.

I just finished installing Boot Camp and XP Pro on my Mac Book Pro. There are a hand full of issues with Boot Camp I didn’t know about until after I installed it (touch pad support, system clock problems, backlight support, etc.), but I’m happy to say that all the Unity demos I’ve thrown at it so far have worked.
