Text Mesh Pro - 3D text - flickering [SOLVED]

Hello folks,

I’ve imported a font into my project for use as 3D text. I did this via the Font Asset Creator process.

My problem is the font I’ve made flickers and distorts pretty badly when used as 3D text.

Whereas the default text mesh pro font (LiberationSans) renders just fine:

Any suggestions about where or how I would start fixing the flicker on my new font?

Thanks!

Is this using the Canvas System or a normal text object using the Mesh Renderer?

Try enabling Extra Padding on the text object. This property is found in the Extra Settings section of the text object inspector.

Thanks for the reply @Stephan_B .

It’s 3D text. It’s using the mesh renderer like so:

The extra padding seemed to fix it! Can you tell me what that is doing behind the scenes? I’m intrigued.

Thanks!

It is possible that the padding value / mesh ends up too tights around the letter which results in some clipping. Extra padding increases the size of the individual quads for the character thus preventing clipping.

If you enable Shaded Wireframe you will be able to see this.

Make sure the ratio of Sampling Point Size to Padding is about 10% for the font assets you create.
