Eventhough the old Text marked as Legacy, the TextMeshPro is not working out of box in any Unity versions. There is no information available inside Unity Editor to get the TextMeshPro work. The worst it’s not supporting any of the asian languages like Chinese, Japanese and Korean. There is no simple way of adding support for these languages to TextMeshPro.
The most difficult part is to set up your fonts, which I agree isn’t trivial, but the rendering and editing after that step is pretty darn capable and works the same as other languages. It’s even getting RTL for Hebrew or Arabic working.
Instead of raging categorically, just get specific about what you’re having trouble doing.
