Hello.
When i import my files from blender (v 2.45) i try to apply textures to them, but my object only shows one colour (often black). I have tried to export to other file formats from blender (.obj .fbx) but it happens the same. i think it can be something with that unity applies the texture to every polygon (my object is a turus (like a donut)).
can someone give me a hand please?
You have to UV map your objects before you can texture them. You can then texture them in Blender and they will automatically have the same textures applied in Unity upon import.

Thanks.
One more question i’m a bit nooby on blender too so how do you UV map things?
Too involved a question to be answered here. Go to Blender.org and Blenderartists.com and find some tutorials.
The simplest thing is, while in object mode (not edit mode), hit F to go into UV mode. That will at least give some default UVs for the object, though it probably won’t be what you want. While in UV mode, you can hit U to see the various types of unwrapping you can do. Hit Shift-F10 to switch to the UV editor where you can assign textures; Shift-F5 to go back to the 3D view. (There are menu options for all of this stuff, of course, but the keyboard shortcuts are faster and well worth learning.) At least that will get you started.
