Hi there Im a 3D artist/designer using Cinema 4D and I came across unity recently. So Ive been experimenting today and Ive hit a wall so thats why I registered.
Ive imported a whole scene of objects as one FBX file, in cinema 4d each object is uv mapped and has its own texture. So on another computer in unity I add the scene and set up the first person walking camera and collision detection meshes then I want to apply textures.
How do I apply them? they are jpgs, I thought maybe I could just drag them on to the objects that they apply to but the objects just go black. So I tried creating a new material and then loading the texture into the diffuse and then appling the material but I got the same result…black. even applying standard textures to my objects they just come out with a single colour.
I assume that maybe the file I exported hasnt kept all my uvmapping? why not? how can I get it to keep it?
yup I can change the diffuse colour to whatever I want its just when I apply my texture maps that the objects go black.
Should I export each object in my scene seperately, that would take a long time but if it means they keep UVs I will do it.??
I thought Unity was meant to work really well with c4d files? how come I cant load c4d files in unity? do I have to have c4d on the mac? I only have it on pc :(.
I think I read somewhere that a few 3D modeling apps have buggy exporters that Unity cannot read correctly, or something( not sure though )… Can you try to export it to a different format? Like .3DS or something? As far as I know, Unity will read .3DS files just fine.
Yes, it works best if if your 3D modeling app is installed on the same computer as Unity. However, the problem could very well be the C4D exporter, so it may not make any difference. :?
