Texturing Help Please

Hello

Although my game is “mechanicaly sound”, I am still a noob. I would like to consolidate many textures into one big 1024x1024 image/material, but I have some noob questions. This will eventually be used on the iPhone.

Say I combine textures used for a washing machine, a tire, and a barrel all into one image. When I resize/offset the texture for the barrel in the inspector, the texture resizes on the other objects as well.

How do I assign UVs for different objects independently using a single material?

I use Cinema 4D and thought I should do all of this within that app using one big texture instead. But how do I get this into Unity? Doesn’t C4D export these all as seperate textures/materials anyways? How do I combine them?

Can someone point me in the right direction? Do I need to use code to assign the UV’s…if so how? I find it surprising that this is so seemingly complex (hopefully it actually isn’t).

I know this is probably basic stuff, but I am so lost on this. I keep seeing mention of Texture Packing, but I can’t find any good explanation of how to use it.

:frowning: Thanks for any help!

Put all your textures together into one texture in Photoshop or whatever. Then in C4D you need to use this one texture and move all the UVs around to match this new texture sheet.

PS- moving this to External Tools.

I’m actually done with a Unity Editor Plugin that will make the Sprite Atlas Building process a breeze. Totally compatible with the iPhone build of Unity.

It handles positioning, resizing, cropping of transparent edges, rescaling of your preexisting textures into a consolidated png file.

Is it something you guys would be interested in having?

Really, that’s all? And this will be a single material in Unity when I import it? That’s too easy!! :slight_smile: Thank you!!

@Jonaphin

I would be very interested. Thank you both for the quick responses!!!
