I have recently updated my package.
The only change was the category change, which has changed from 3d models to shaders.
All went fine, but in the course of that the ratings has gone.
The asset had 19 ratings - 5 stars average, before update - now there is “no enough ratings”
Only the rated reviews have remained on the page.
How could I fix this?
Most buyers get rejected by lack of ratings or low ratings, so the asset sales have dropped almost to zero.
The asset just got to 3D models category by mistake.
Probably because 3D models appear at the top of the category dropdown list.
But the AssetStore people are supposed to check the assets, so they should have noticed that it was not the right category for this asset.
Or they assume that the declared category doesn’t need to fit the package content.
Now it seems that the rating matters much more that the placement in the right category, because my sales have dropped almost to zero since that.
Alternatively a lot more people might frequent the 3D models section compared to the shader section. This drop might very well be just from switching categories. @tomekkie2 I don’t think you should deprecate or make free - From what I have seen (I have not purchased) I think your asset is really nice, quality product - and provides a good feature to developers looking for a solution for cutaway objects.
Maybe I make a mistake by measuring the others by my own standards. I dont buy asset store assets often, but when I do I usually have my needs specified and search by keywords like in this case would be “cross section” or “clipping”. I wouldn’t search that kind of asset in 3d models, so I just thought the people might get confused when they find it in 3d models.
The other thing is the assets lifetimes are limited. Every day bring more and more free tutorials and new ways appear to do the things. For those using shader editors - new nodes are being added.
The last if some feature is new it becames trendy, and everybody likes it to get included, then after some time it gets morally depreciated.
But how should I properly ask the AssetStore team to fix that?
I keep on resubmiting the package again and again leaving the message asking to fix it.
Then the package stays as pending review for one day, and then disappears from pending review without any message.
You are correct however there are still a lot of Unity users who do not code/program so the only way to accomplish what your asset does is to physically cut a model in half. There are external process to accomplish this task, but none that perform directly in Unity afaik.
Also - I’ve seen several competent programmers who back away from shader stuff, either they don’t like it or it is just foreign to them. Those in addition to non coders are your target audience, not the programmer who can create a shader to accomplish what your package does.
I don’t know how to ‘fix’ the asset store problem. I think I would leave it as it is, but I am not an asset seller (yet) and I do not depend on those funds coming in. Just my opinion though.
You are right, would leave it for now.
I am not that much dependent on the funds, it’s just a pocket money helping to motivate me (together with ratings!!! and the response from users) to maintain the asset.
The next asset I have submitted and now is pending review - is derived from this one, but will be free and I was careful to put it into the right category from the beginning.
