The Chuji Way

Sooo, where to start? Well how about introducing myself and the game I am working on, The Chuji Way.

I am a 27 year old programmer, residing in Sweden, Malmö, and absolutely crazy for embarking on this journey of game creation. I am the sole developer of The Chuji Way and I have been at it for a long time. I entered the game developing scene with no prior knowledge of creating games, but what I did have was a heavy programming background (it helped a lot). If it were not for Unity3d, then I would not have been here today, sharing this content, this work that I’ve poured my heart and soul into.

There is yet a lot to be done. I will be posting about my findings, progress, problems, ideas, and much more here in this thread, and in even greater detail over at the development blog section of my website.

For now, I would like to end with a tiny teaser of the game, I don’t have any presentable game play to show for yet, but hopefully this gives a tiny idea of what is to come.

Edit - 180429:
Adding a video to a funny video blooper montage of the one I call Grandpa.
When recording the Teaser video, several hundred videos were recorded with slight random variations, and so I saw some pretty funny clips. I decided to put the funniest into a short minute montage, enjoy :).

Bahahahah, I was like “where did the human model come from? Did that just fall out of the vehicle?”

I didn’t see him in the road until after he was hit. Epic man, good work.

How long have you been working on this for?

I laughed lot loud by the car and old man as well.

Thanks! I’m glad you found it amusing

I’ve been working on the game for several years, but that includes a lot of time spent familiarizing with Unity on a deeper level, creating different kinds of in-house tools to simplify the pipeline and speed up any future game development which is a one time cost.

A lot of iterations done on code performance, for instance all the procedural environment that I have not revealed yet. It was important to have the whole environment procedurally generated (landscape, clouds, mountains) on a low end mobile device such as an iPhone 4 with no more than 1ms per frame allowing me to be more liberal with the rest of the gameplay.

Then on top of that I had to learn a whole lot of new stuff on at least a basic level. Modeling in certain software, bone rigging, animating, music composition, shader programming, generally experimenting and a whole lot more.

I now use my in-house tools for bone rigging and animating directly in Unity. That’s why I love Unity, it is so easy to extend the editor in any way you could desire and thus increase productivity by a large margin.

Sorry for rambling, haha. Anyway, I will probably show some of the in-house tools I use, as I go on with the rest of my development, and also go more in-depth with some of the things I bring up in this post.

Going to post a fun blooper soon, stay tuned

sick sick sick… I could watch that for hours… what a lovely little world, too… please tell me there are airplanes in your game ( I wanna explore those clouds)… sick sick sick… haha, almost spilled my coffee! keep up the good work.

seriously, not many people can make a pixel-art cherry blossom tree that makes me think “nice cherry blossom tree”…

Haha, there actually is an airplane, and you kind of can fly up in the sky, they just aren’t related to each other xD.

Seriously though, thank you very very much for the kind words. It really boosts me, wanting to work even harder and I greatly appreciate it, cheers!

That is a perfect soundtrack for that.

Poor grandpa! I was not expecting his to get hit by that car in that happy, peaceful world of yours. Anyway, I think this game has a very unique look; I like the consistency of the square-style – even into the clouds. I’m glad that you will be including an airplane concept and am looking forward to further development. You are killing it, keep up the awesome work dude.

It’s not bad at all

I have to admit, I’ve been a bit lazy lately, but with comments like yours I really have no choice but to work hard and get this game published sooner rather than later. I really appreciate your support!

Looks very promising, the intro and title screen in general look very cinematic and professional. Looking forward to see where this goes.

Sooner is fine with me!

Awesome!
