The editor keeps losing a project link to Unity Services

The editor keeps losing a project link to Unity Services, so I need to relink it again and again.
It is really frustrating. As my project uses Unity IAP it fails to build, when this link with Services is broken.

This is what I usually see: ā€œYou do not have permissions for this actionā€.

Sometimes it is enough to press ā€œRefresh accessā€. Sometime I need to press it more than once. But usually I need manually to link project again and again.

I’m the owner of my project and the organization.

Since upgrading to Unity 5.5 I also have this issue. Each time I launch the Editor, I need to manually link my project again.

Yep. Count me in too. Happens each time I reload Unity (and the project). Relinking doesn’t appear to ā€˜stick’.

Unity 5.5.0f3/ MacOS Sierra 10.12.1

Have had this issue since 5.4, every time I open Unity it makes me re-link my project. Not sure if its related but I appear to have two ā€œOrganizationsā€ associated with my account for some reason.

This is getting irritating to say the least. Only started happening to me after upgrading to Unity 5.5.0f3.

Things I’ve tried, to no avail:

  • Relink to exisiting project.
  • Create new Cloud project.
  • Deleting project settings (including UnityConnectSettings.asset).

Nothing works. Anyone found a work around yet?

Update 1
I’ve just checked ProjectSettings.asset setting file, and it’s showing the correct Cloud Project ID, together with the correct project and company name.

cloudServicesEnabled:
    Build: 1
    Collab: 1
    UNet: 1
  cloudProjectId: 8xxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx
  projectName: Game Name
  organizationId: carbon-imagineering
  cloudEnabled: 0

As a test, I removed these settings, to see if it would write new ones when I re-attached the project, which it did.

However, on restarting Unity, it still wants me to connect to Unity Cloud Services. The settings in the file are still intact though. This is very peculiar.

Next stop… Fiddle with the Unity settings in the ā€˜~/Library’ folder.

Update 2
Still no luck…

I removed (backed up to a different location), both the ~/Library/Unity and ~/Library/Application Support/Unity folders and restarted Unity.

It asked me for my username and password, which was to be expected. I logged in, and lo and behold it connected to the Cloud project! Great, I thought… So, I quit Unity, and restarted… Back to an unlinked project yet again.

Update 3
I went for the nuclear option and deleted (backed up!) all library folders to do with Unity (/Library/Unity, /~/Library/Unity and ~/Library/Application Support/Unity). Not only that, but I deleted (backed up!) my project folder in it’s entirety.

I then ran Unity, entered my subscription licence, and then downloaded the project from the Cloud. All seemed to be okay, until I quit and restarted Unity again.

Yet again, unlinked project.

Update 4
Ok, this is wierd…

With my unlinked project loaded, I selected File/New Project… and the project miraculously linked itself to the Cloud project. Did the same with File/Open Project… too.

Now, it does go back to being unliked after a restart, but always relinks when I open those dialogs, so something gets reset at that time.

So basically, still no joy, and getting ever so slightly fed up with this. I’m a Pro subscriber too…

If anyone from Unity would like to chime in, I’d appreciate it.

In addtion to the above, I have tried unity 5.5.0p3, even though no mention of this issue was made in the release notes, but worth a shot! Didn’t fix it.

I removed everything, all files in the library and Unity itself. Reinstalled a fresh version of Unity 5.5.0f3. Still no joy when loading a project automatically on Unity load.

The only workaround is to untick the ā€˜Load Previous Project on Startup’ so that you always go through the initial load project dialog, which links the project to Unity Cloud services every time.

Hope these findings help someone and/or saves them the time going through all this to find a solution!

Indeed this is the only workaround I found, as well.

I have Unity 5.5.1f1. This issue is still here. But there is no reply from Unity staff. :frowning:

I found one almost a year old (!) thread about the same issue:

ā€œUnity seems to have lost its link to your projectā€ - getting this in Unity 2019.3.11.

Has a fix for this ever been found?

same here, last time I had to download the project again just to restore the link, and then, copy all of my Assets files back to the fresh downloaded project… it was a big project, so it took forever to download, and when I finally had it back, gues what? … yeah!! it lost it’s link again!! fortunately, I was able to restore the link by closing and restarting unity several times, losing the link every now and then in the middle of the upload… eventually it did work, but I am really afraid it will decide stop working eventually… and then… idk, i’ll just have to send my changes via google drive?

ā€œbut Unity Collab only fails on slow internet connectionsā€ā€¦

well, git on github doesn’t seem to have that problem, maybe i’ll just throw collab away and stick to git :stuck_out_tongue:
