The gambling issue again

Just saw this on Slashdot here which links to this article on a software company who is getting charged because they wrote gambling software for clients overseas.

For those in the US her keep an eye on this one.

US Law is getting absurd. As one of the commentator points out :

“Cool. Maybe they should start suing weapons manufacturers for producing items that can be used to kill. I’m pretty sure that’s illegal in New York too. Or how about Auto makers for making cars that can used to break the speed limit, and cause vehicular man-slaughter.”

Sounds like a pretty messed up situation, will be interesting to see what happens.

My favourite reply

It actually sounds the guy here likely sold his “casino software” to some one that is a target of some much bigger operation, it’s not nice but it’s not unheard off police strong-arming people into cooperating in these situations.

It’s very unfortunate, the guy apparently did business with some sketchy parties, and we are not just talking about one-time sales, if he has the power to deliver the update that will create the backdoor, it means he has service agreements, which is more than the innocent sounding “nor responsible for the use of his sold software.”

Not taking it against the guy, but I’m sure its not as simple as the article portrays it. It never is.

BTW, this has been dragging since 2011.
