The Last Survivor (WIP) - One Generation Games

Introduction:

We, One Generation Games team, started developing a new open world zombie game called “The Last Survivor”. Our team is currently made of two man. This is an open world game where you play in a town where your goal is to stay alive by killing zombies, robbing stores (ammu-nations, pharmacies, food stores, other houses, buildings…), collecting stuff in your house safe or your bag and using them. We will be posting all the game’s updates in this thread untill the game release which is going to be in three or two months. The reason why we are going to start posting early is that we want to know your opinions and suggestions for the game so we can improve it. Our website is still under construction. We plan on releasing the game in Desura and IndieDB.
So please give feedback and help us!

Using a modified version of the S-Inventory system, we managed to create this inventory system:

  • To pick them up you just walk by them and press the action key (E by default).
  • Press the backpack button (B by default) to show the backpack content (UI).
  • When you select an item, a green box will be drawn around it.
  • When you hover your mouse over an item, you will see a brief description of it.
  • You can drag and drop the item to change their positions inside the backpack.
  • And of course items are saved and loaded automatically.
  • Drag and drop items in the appropriate equipment slot.
  • If the equipment slot is used, you will see the icon of its item and the same brief description that shows when hover over this same in the inventory.
  • We currently have 4 equipment slots and they are: Melee Weapon, Primary Weapon, Secondary Weapon and Grenade (We will be adding more when we add more items).
  • The equipped weapons are the weapons that you can use by pressing 1, 2, 3 or 4 keys.

Thank you.

Any webplayer? What is your edge compared to other games? Whats new? Se this as a creative feedback on your presentation. Zombies are always fun

Well, webplayer is not available at the moment. What’s new in this game is that the whole town is accessible by the player in both of the story mode and survival mode because the only way to stay alive is to collect/craft things from all around the town. You will have access to the police department for example (To get weapons and armor), access to stores that sells melee weapons, access to food stores (Eating food will increase your health) etc… And at the same time fight the zombies. You will have to collect wood/metal and use it to keep your house safe from zombies too, your house can be used also to hide weapons and food. We are thinking about adding a car that helps you transport around the town but we are not sure about it. Shortly, we will focus on making the story fun, exciting and challenging. (What’s written in the main post is only the story introduction).

More things might be added/changed in the future and thank you for your comment.

I do like the sound of that. I’ve always wanted a survival game where you raid stores, not enough of them IMO :stuck_out_tongue: Really keen to smash through the window of an abandoned 7/11, open the fuel tanks, grab a couple of remaining Snickers bars, all the while trying not to create so much racket to grab the attention of “the horde” :stuck_out_tongue: And boy oh boy don’t get me started on raiding an old gun store xD Really keen to see future developments

Just a quick observation on a couple of the weapons, you would probably be best to increase the texture size of those bats, they look very blurry! And that matters a lot in a First Person

We are thinking about something like an Inventory system, the player will have a bag with him and he can place a limited quantity of food/ammo/medicines in it. We’ll also make a storage system inside the player’s safe house where he can put more stuff in there from his bag or take what he is going to need in his mission.

As for the bats’ texture, we’ll fix them. Thanks for your comment.

Hmm looks good, would you need models for buildings?

We are going to create all the buildings, stores, houses and everything related to the map. But we’ll use the roads in JamesArndt’s city kit and some of his buildings untill we make our own. We are now focusing on the weapon system, we hope to finish it soon and start working on the map.

UPDATE:

  • Finished the dynamic weapon pickup system:
  • Started working on the Zombie AI script (Will update main post soon with details about zombies models and script).
  • The cubes are the waypoints that the zombie need to follow to reach the player and avoid obstacles.
  • Finished the grenade script and added explosion particle and sound.
  • Finished the shotgun model (currently working on the texture) and finished the Desert Eagle model (Screen shots coming soon).

UPDATE: We just finished the gold Desert Eagle:

Looking good, like the post a lot, people should learn from you, heh. Best of luck to you guys!

Thanks a lot GeneBox.

  • Small update: Added bullet holes.

UPDATE:

  • Just finished working on the shotgun model, here’s a screen shot:
  • Started working on the Inventory system.
  • Started working on the Sniper Rifle model.
Also, working on the map (the roads, trees and few buildings).

MAP UPDATE:

  • Our first try to make the map. The screen shots show the town center at night.
  • We are planning to add damaged vehicles on the roads, smoke, fire, trash, trees, and stores.
  • Some of the objects are temporary.
  • Click on the pictures for bigger view.

Give feedback and suggestions to help us improve the map please!

Can’t see the images in the post above.

Looks like postimage.org is having some problems. If anyone else can’t see pictures on this thread please let me know.

Looks good.

We’re really sorry that we didn’t update the game in the past week. We were very busy. But here’s a small update:
The bag system: It’s an inventory system that can hold 25 items (food, medicines, ammo, etc…). The bag GUI appears when you press on B. The player is able to drag and drop the bag GUI whenever he wants by simply clicking on the drag button and moving the mouse. The objects that can be put inside the bag are tagged with “Item”. In order to place them inside the bag, you can simply on them and an icon will be created for this item inside the bag GUI. To drop them you can just click on their icon. This system is missing textures and still work in progress. (Started working on it today).

Here are two screen shots explaining what I said:

Another update, started working on the HUD: The hud is still missing textures too. We made a health bar, stamina bar, bullets count and a minimap. This is also work in progress

UPDATE: Finished the Sniper Rifle:
