This time, the remaining game devs were made to produce a working prototype of their game ideas from the last episode using Unity. It seems that Mr. Bean was having some trouble with Unity while the others seemed to know what they were doing.
Mr. Bean’s game called “Cycles” seemed to cater more to the sensitive and artistic nature of humanity. I think he was thinking of a game along the lines of “The Path” for the PC where the world was full of symbolism and thought provoking material. Unfortunately he couldn’t properly show the gameplay mechanic he had in mind.
Other games include an interesting one called “Star Riser”. The devs called it an arcade juggling game where the point is to make use of Unity’s physics engine to make the falling stars bounce. Another game involved you playing as a robot or something that has to stop a nuclear meltdown. It seems to be a 3D FPS puzzle game with multiple solutions, it could be interesting as development continues. Another game is a side scrolling one about tribes and a virus. So far, it’s just a ball bouncing around platforms. The final game’s about Washington’s dog, it even has the wig lol! It’s another side scroller and the dog just jumps around.
Mr. Bean got kicked because they said his game is not something that people might find fun to play.
Personally, here are the games that I think might have a chance of winning the prizes:
The nuclear meltdown game that is an FPS puzzle.
Star Riser juggling game.
I was actually rooting for Mr. Bean’s “Cycles” game because it was original and it seems to have artistic and thought provoking value. As for the other games, with the amount of time they have to finish them, it would be an extreme challenge to give the platformers an interesting art style, story, and additional gameplay mechanics that would elevate their rankings.
It seems that the next episode will involve having the devs make concept art or something, at least that’s what the preview seemed to imply:smile:
I dont like that show atall, the game devs they have on it are quite frankly “Shit” and they dont have the right mentality to make a game for the masses, they are not a good representation of game developers, they are just a pack of anoying nerds.
(Sorry if any of them are members of these forums)
EDIT: i know they only had 3 hours to make these but they are all actualy verry simple and for a team i would of expected more and team beans was just a spinning circle.
none, but i am part of the mass market so i think i have just as valid oppinion and ill tell you now that none of these games have any possiblility of sucsess without massive changes.
EDIT: maby if my game goes well, i can say my game is popular
Actually you shouldn’t watch and comment on these type of things as otherwise you’re supporting it but as i read that Mr. Bean got kicked i got curious because to me it was by far the most interesting design which also triggered your imagination. On a funny note he got kicked more or less for not knowing Unity, i would say this is perfect marketing. :O) I don’t know if they were told to get used to Unity behind the scenes upfront or how much time they had between the takes but if not it’s more than stupid restricting your dev tools in a three hours competition and expecting people to learn how to use Unity and prototype. Somehow the remaining teams pretty much represent a large part of the iOS type of games and do pretty much all suck and either have a weak/shitty design or do care more about building a nice level instead of a interesting game. I feel sorry for these people, they seem to be adults from their ages but act like kids.
Yer, i think if team bean had more then one person it would have been better… it was an interesting concept but it wasent realy executed well to be honnest it was just a GUI guy and a spinning circle(i dont think it did anything) but if he had to learn unity in that time then i could understand a little more
That painted GUI had more substance than the rest of the designs together. Mr. Bean needs more time to complete his game but at least he has a chance of coming up with a interesting game in the end.
