It also seems that most of its performance promises were hype and hype alone.
The x360 crushes it in every way except for streaming floating-point work, due to its overall lack of bandwidth and general processing cores
(and why is floating-point work important for gaming? Oh, it’s not; Hmm…)
This thought comes to mind: “What was Sony thinking?”
It appears that they just made a game console that isn’t made for gaming.
It will be able to play back 1080p video without breaking a sweat, whatever that’s worth to you.
And at least it will be painless to code for…

sigh
To judge this fairly i would say you need to play with them a bit. Until i have done this i woud say each console has it’s ups and downs. At the moment i would say:
The XBox360 somehow sounds like a good compromise and if you want to have the choice out of a lot of games than this console is the only nextgen solution at the moment. Further more as great titles will appear within the next months (Alan Wake, Bioshock, Crysis,…).
The Vista-xbox360 connection also is a nice argument. If they open their market platform and dev tools reasonable this is a really nice system. Although i dislike the design of the console…
The Wii sounds like a fun system to me and i am curious to try it out but at the moment i honestly also don’t see any games which would make fun playing to me beside of Wii Sports. I’m just not fond of Mario or playing Zelda with this steering. Too artificial for what i have seen. As with the PS3 it will take some time till they have proper games around which make good usage of the consoles strength. The controller seems to be a great idea but i hate changing batteries.
I’m also dissapointed with the prices they want to charge for their games as i can remember Nintendo said, as their system is much more simpler, it doesn’t take developers so long to develop games and therefore this also will result into cheaper games. Now look at the prices they will offer their games for: 50-60€ is way beyond that…buhhh!
The PS3 is attracting and distracting at the same time. Sony sometimes comes along so arrogant and sometimes they are doing a great job. I still think it’s a powerful system and having this power to play around with in games or homebrew stuff is amazing. I just hope that it actually works fluently, it’s a silent system and they won’t try to rip the europeans as i’ve read. It also will be interesting to see their indiy/homebrew strategy. With linux a lot could be possible. It’s up to them. Hey who doesn’t want to play FF XIII?! :O) Maybe it’s the best to wait for the cute small version of the PS3 like with the PS2.
For me it comes down to a) which system is silent and b) delivers the most fun to me. And here i don’t care about innvative steering or superb graphics. Both is great and creates it’s own addiction but in the end it’s the overall experience and the gameplay that wins for me. I’m as happy with a simple but great C64 game as i’m with a complex pc game.
Brady Culture taking on his glasses Have i ever said that you instantly should go out and buy Sam&Max?! Go…now go and buy Sam&Max!!! ;O)

I know exactly one person who is excited about the PS3 (not me), and at least 5 that are excited about Wii. I also know two people who have a 360.
Resistance: Fall of Man is being touted as the big game to have for PS3 at launch. Apparently it doesn’t suffer the typical shallow fluff disease that most launch titles do. It’s an FPS, though. XBox 360 had exactly zero non-fluff games at launch. Every last launch game suffered from the rush. (Obviously this is all subjective and debatable to some degree.)
The control mechanism for Zelda on the Wii has garnered universal praise by the journalists that got to play for over 10 hours (if they wanted) a couple weekends back. It’s not tiring, it doesn’t feel “artificial”, once you use the new system going back to old control scheme is out of the question, etc. I’ve even read a reviewer say it’s more comfortable because you can sit with your arms at your side.
Judging by how the launch games look, PS3 seems to have an easy edge in technology, too. Especially when you consider that Resistance maintains it’s visuals without ever dipping below 30fps. Likewise, the Wii is very significantly less powerful. That’s clearly not the only determination of a winner, of course, as PS2 destroyed XBox and Gamecube and it is far less powerful than both.
Besides all this, I’ve seen several reviews of the Wii by people who have played it for a significant amount of time now and although some have their reservations about hardcore games and long term viability, not one that I’ve read has failed to mention how fun and full of laughter the experience was. The most critical I read also mentioned 5 games they really couldn’t wait to play more. 5 LAUNCH games. If you’ve been through console launches since the NES days, you know that’s pretty impressive.
On top of that, Wii is the only one with significant potential to expand the game market rather than just service current gamers. The feature lists for XBox 360 and PS3 LOOK good for a general audience, but their interface and control scheme is plenty off putting to non-traditional gamers. Wii: Point and click. Easier than a mouse.
Wii for me, but I’ll get my hands on the others through friends and family.
I’m pretty excited about how all three have embraced the idea of bringing the casual games back to the couch potatoes.

Now you know two! I think i love the V2 of the PS3… ;O)

XBox360 has Geometry Wars. Or as long as Bizzarre doesn’t pull it completely down there is still GridWars2 around. ;O)

Sorry the videos i’ve seen and the reviews i’ve read said a different thing and personally i couldn’t get much out of what i saw. But don’t misunderstand me. Wii SPorts for sure is a lot of fun, but Zelda…nah…not for me.
…Gamecube and it is far less powerful than both.

Pikmin!

Honestly i don’t care about expanding the game market when buying a console. I care about what makes fun for me to play and there i do have the Nintendo problem with that i dislike a lot of their games. Afew of them are brilliant but as i said before keep that Mario freak and his friends away from me.

I think that’s more a marketing issue than really caring about indies but it has the same effect in this case so it’s definately welcome.
That is exactly what amazes me most about the Wii. I am in awe when I step back and look at what the Wii is working with for hardware; Barely anything at all,
yet the realism of the graphics of certain games surpass those of the original xbox. The games run flawlessly without any drop of framerate (from what I’ve witnessed).
I don’t understand how Nintendo pulls off these graphics with the tiny bit of muscle that the Wii has… but that is definitely worth something.
It’s not THAT underpowered… It’s about twice that of the Gamecube, which was generally at least on par with the Xbox, so it’s no surprise the Wii can pull off some nice-looking stuff.

Although i like comic styles the nice thing about a system like the PS3 is that you’re not fixed on doing such stuff only as it has the power also to do more realistic or complex stuff if you want to…
