Also, do you have any plans to add wetness to it? This will greatly improve the effectiveness of vegetation on rainy days!
It was actually one of the first things I wanted to do but I wasn’t sure if the GUI would break after someone would change the shaders in Amplify so I just used the default GUI as best as possible. I have never made a custom GUI for shaders before but I will try it on the next update.
I had that in mind as well, but after thinking it through, I wanted to include raindrops too. However, I didn’t see the benefits unless you zoomed in on them. I could easily make the plants look glossier using a simple slider. Adding snow was on my lower priority list until a customer mentioned it so I made it high priority. I think I could put wetness on my high-priority list. I realized it would take more research to add interaction so now it’s a low priority, things can change easily as I work on it.
Now I’m working on a different project so updates for TTFE will be starting next year.
Regarding the shader GUI, if the user changes the shader variable name that you define, it will be broken, and if there are new added variables, it will not be displayed. Of course, this can be handled by writing code, like unity’s built-in shader GUI. So my idea is that this doesn’t actually conflict with users who want to modify your shaders, most users just use them, and if the shader is modified, you just tell them to switch back to the ASE default GUI!
Often, users who are willing to modify shaders already have some shader writing skills! You don’t have to worry about that
In addition, regarding the issue of overall humidity, raindrops are not the only manifestation of overall wetness. Rainy days will bring about changes in environmental saturation and brightness, etc. The manifestation of raindrop ripples is just a small part of it! Making a rain falling in the jungle more realistic should be much more complicated than snow.
Do you have any plans to introduce a discount on TTFE at some point, to be honest, the dollar exchange rate in my country is crazy. I’ve been waiting for its discount!
Good point, I’ll think about it!
Thanks for asking. I could offer unofficial discounts by changing the price, but I would prefer to wait for an invitation from Unity. I see other publishers are making discounts on their own so I might consider doing one for a very short time. Not sure if it will affect my ability to get invited to official discounts as Unity suggests not changing the price during or after an official discount. If you know anything I don’t about it I’d like to know. For now, what would you suggest would be an ideal discount?
It’s still the Black Friday promotion now. I don’t know whether the Unity Assetstore will soon hold a large-scale Autumn promotion event or whether there will be a big Winter promotion a few weeks later! I’m not quite sure about Unity’s invitation discount rules. Generally speaking, they will invite active assets, and whether an asset is active is usually judged by data such as visits, sales and wish lists! You can go to the Unity AssetStore publisher community to ask for more details about this. Perhaps it’s not a good choice for you to release your own discounts during this period. I suggest that you’d better ask about relevant questions.
As for the ideal discount, From a buyer’s point of view, the higher the better., which means they can spend less money to buy the assets they like. However, I myself also publish assets on the Unity Assetstore, although they hardly attract any attention! My thought is that it should be determined by your selling price, whether your assets have a near-monopoly position in terms of functionality, whether there is a premium compared to your original expectations when pricing your assets, the discount strength of similar assets with close prices, and your current sales situation. In most cases, for assets with a selling price exceeding fifty US dollars, people are also used to waiting for a 50% discount before making a purchase.
However, the final decision on all of this lies with you. It’s your freedom to offer any discount or even not to offer one at all. These are just some of my own thoughts and represent only myself.
Also, increase the activity of your assets, and there’s a good chance you’ll get invitations to Unity on multiple promotions in the future! (something like being TVE), there are some topics that I want to send you a private message for, I don’t know if you accept a private message, or a Discord private message (I saw you in the ASE community)
Sure you can reach out to me through my discord, I’m open to DMs if it’s related to my assets and other discussions. Go ahead and send me a DM.
