I started making like a terrain for a game a few weeks ago and I just wanted to show people some images to see what people think of it. I kind of made to be really as graphically realistic as possible.
Below are a few images and I may add a video at some point also this is no were near done I still have to do a lot more scenery and set up the actual game. I just really wanted to show this as this is really my first actual proper game project I have started on. I don’t mind any constructive criticism as I want to make this the best I can.
Unfortunately with the detail draw distance the grass doesn’t all show up but in game it is absolutely fine.
I wouldn’t mind any suggestions of what I can do with this because I was thinking of an FPS or something but I am unfortunately absolutely useless at modelling and even worse at animating lol. More pictures will be coming soon!
Thanks to the technique of using circular motions and a quick look at some reference images I managed to come up with this. Also thanks to everyone who has commented on this as it has helped me a lot. I still need to do a lot more work on the mountains but I am slowly getting there.
There is a new game scripting update if you have read my previous posts about the ‘Probe’ you may know about it chasing you all the way around the island until your dead. Well I have set the script up so each time you collect more gems the probes speed increases slightly making it eventually impossible to get away from.
There is a preview of the completed game available at Domain name for sale - M2H. I have updated it since then but it has not yet been updated on site. The newer version if a lot better.
The mountains are not realistic at all. It’s a typical computer-games fault. Look at photography of real mountains and you’ll notice a few things. They’re almost never this steep, and if so, the steep parts are full of fissures. They are very rarely rounded, especially at the top. They almost never rise out of an otherwise smooth landscape, except in desert environment when, once again, they are craggy.
I would make the incline less sudden; right now they’re kind of jutting straight out of the ground awkwardly, if you change the incline and roughen the surface it should look better.
I found an awesome was to make mountains. Take the move up tool (or what ever you want to call it) and select the picture of the perfect circle. Then click on you terrain and move your mouse around in small circles. This will create really jagged edges. next just smooth it out and your done. I did a quick model for you and I put a random snow texture on it.
Those references images along with that technique you showed me hopefully I should be able to complete my mountains and make them look a bit more realistic.
Thanks for the tip as I have rushed my games many times and ended up absolutely ruining them so this time I will remember to go at a steady pace. Also Mike I took a quick look at your website and voted for you as best game website.
I know this may be a bit of topic but I have got a little game setup now with it and basically the aim of it is to collect as many gems as you can in a time period. I have basically set it all up but I am just wondering how do I make like a timer to display on the users screen.
I just thought I would share my ideas on the actual game side of things well the idea of the game is that you have to outrun a basically ‘Probe’ droid type thing. The objective of the game is really to get as many gems as you can within a time limit.
So you basically have to fight against time and the ‘Probe.’
I was planning of having some sort of high score board. Also people from experience of submitting your games what does the quality of the game have to be like.
Yh I wouldn’t mind any help but with the question of submitting to say Wooglie how would we split profits or something like that. I may email you if I need any help as I am going to see a film right now so I will talk to you later.
