Hello, I have just started working with unity and I very much enjoy it I have started to make a horror game and I thought I would show you guys what I have done to see if you like it or not. By the way it’s titled “The Woods” because I had to think of a fast name for the game before releasing the demo so the name may be changed.

Please post which one of these you like or your own title which I may like more.

Known Bugs:

  • Player can walk through objects trees, rocks, etc. - Fixed

To Do List:

  • Give the monsters actual models - Done
  • Give the monsters animations - Done
  • (Possible) Make more levels
  • Make more monsters
  • Fix all bugs - Done
  • Make an objective to the game
  • Make credits - Done
  • Official Game Name - IMPORTANT

This game takes place with you in a small woods being chased by horrific monsters while you try to search for a way out.

So I take it you ripped off this track? (which was incidentally ripped from another track)

Yet I see no credit. Using it isnt the problem, not-crediting it is.

Another tip, no-one cares about your in-game menu. There was far too much of it in your video.

I also personally despise when people put text all through the video.

Well I’m planning on adding a Credits menu to the game just haven’t gotten to it and I’m sorry there was too much menu in the video but YouTube does allow you to skip ahead whenever you want so…

You seriously need to work on the game. The menu wasn’t very good, terrain was ugly and very unrealistic. The pinhole view of the flashlight is really bad for looking around. Doesn’t give it a sense of horror when you’re constantly looking everywhere. Looks like blatant Slender rip off. Same trees, same textures. Seriously work on improving the look.

I am working on this game quite a lot it’s my first game so I’m not surprised if people don’t think it looks great.
Also I can assure you i’m not trying to make a Slender rip off personally that game to me isn’t even fun.
Plus this is the first release of the game lots of stuff may change in the future.

I don’t understand what is with the recent flood of horror games where the basic gameplay mechanic is the flashlight.
It’s like the new ‘ultra cool idea that will make your Horror game insta-successful’ ? In my personal opinion it is very easy to just create confusion with it. I don’t see myself jerking the mouse in all direction in the hope I find whatever to do next.

What happened to awesome games like Clive barkers : Undying ?

A word of advice. In gaming industry, if an idea was successful and everyone else is doing it now. Be smart and don’t do it. Especially if it should be a learning experience for you.

Thanks for offering the help, I’ll most likely need it at some point. So by unity programmer your’re good with scripting I assume?

Just a friendly advice. You don’t need 3-4 3d menus. Sometimes less is more. I’ll do the same thing to my project, I mean changing from 3d menu to a simple 2d.

One more thing, don’t take this offensive, but I had to laugh when I saw the: good looking tree/grass and awesome black sky texts :slight_smile:

It’s too dark. Have you ever been outside at night? It’s not really that dark at all.

Can’t tell if your being sarcastic or not… I don’t think the trees look amazing but they look ok and grass is just alright to me.

Yeah we know the trees don’t look amazing, it’s the dark sky that looks amazing!

It says so right in your video.
